Vandroya is the name of a new progressive metal act from Brazil. ONE is the title of the debut album and I hooked up with singer Daisa Munhoz in order to learn a little bit more about the band, the members, the past, present, and future for the band. We also talked about what the climate is like for harder music in Brazil. Munhoz is also involved in the metal opera Soulspell led by Heleno Vale so naturally we also spoke about that. If you like bands like Symphony X, Angra, and Sonata Arctica, make sure to check out Vandroya. Read the rest of this entry »

FARMIKOS, the new L.A. band featuring former OZZY OSBOURNE and DAVID LEE ROTH guitarist Joe Holmes and vocalist Robbie Locke (ex-LAIDLAW), have announced a tentative February 2014 release for their eponymous digital debut EP. ‘Kings Of Metal MMXIV’ is a completely new recording with many surprises, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the release of ‘Kings Of Metal’ and MANOWAR’s following world tour.
Already a significant force with international success since their debut album ‘Battle Hymn’s, the ‘Kings Of Metal’ release in 1988 and the following world tour in 1989 catapulted MANOWAR into a new sphere. Songs like “Heart of Steel,” “Kings Of Metal,” “Hail and Kill,” and “Blood of the Kings” became instant classics, celebrated since by metal fans all over the world.
AFTERSHOK have officially released their new single, “Metal Xmas,” on Auburn Records available for download via iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby and other digital outlets. The lyric video can be viewed below.
“As part of the Auburn Records family, Bill Peters (Auburn Records president) has consistently asked us to participate in his annual “Cleveland Metal Holiday Food Drive” concert,” said George Mihalovich, guitarist for AFTERSHOK. “Since circumstances aren’t favorable for the band to play live at this time, we created a ‘Metal Xmas’ anthem to show our support for this great event and the charities that it benefits.”

It’s more or less done, the wait is over. Finally, the 11th studio album from GAMMA RAY “Empire Of The Undead” is almost* done and ready to go.
“Empire Of The Undead” the fast metal song in the typical GAMMA RAY style that has influenced so many bands around the world, has appeared on the single / EP “Master Of Confusion” an appetizer the band released in 2013, just before touring the world non-stop with “relatives” Helloween.
GAMMA RAY worked on the new album during various sessions in 2013, during and in between their perennial tour with Eike Freese at the mixing desk supporting the ever precious work of bass player and co-writer Dirk Schlaechter.
It was just after landing in South America, that a unbelievable news reached Kai Hansen & co.: Hammer Studio, their home, rehearsal place, studio and meeting point for many metal bands in Germany had been blown away by a terrifying fire-stroke, together with instruments, amps, tapes…
Back in their hometurf the band needed to get an overview about their losses only to do what they do best – move on! With that usual Kai Hansen smirk look…
Life is too good to stop and moan.
Nearly everything was destroyed, except the tapes of the almost finished new studio album.
“If this could not stop us… nothing ever will” – joked Kai Hansen – who also added. “
“We got rid of a lot of shit that we gathered there. Unfortunately a lot of good equipment as well. Anyhow, we look into the future and we saved the production and we can continue now in this new place. By mid January we should be done with the work on this album and it’s up to the record company to release it – sometime in March.
We weren’t meant to be reviewing tonight but seeing as there was such a kick ass bill of Black Metal at the Black Heart tonight, myself and fellow Metal-Rules photographer Jo decided to attend some havoc in North London. The anticipation was high as the back road of the venue began to fill out and unfortunately Jo didn’t have her pro-camera with her, so no photos were taken, but she did manage to get some video footage! In the ever-similar pool of symphonic metal, there are only a few bands which truly stand out. One such band is Norway’s Leaves’ Eyes, who have managed to command an impressive legion of fans since their inception in 2003. Now releasing their fifth studio album Symphonies of the Night, the five-piece are preparing for a string of tour dates in 2014, including a stint in the UK. I had an email exchange with well-grounded frontwoman Liv Kristine to find out more.
“I’d rather see Airbourne than AC/DC nowadays,” says one old-timer. “Yeah AC/DC are past it,” returns his pal. There’s a lot of shit being talked tonight. Either that or someone hasn’t been attending AC/DC gigs of late. What we can agree with though is that we really want to see Airbourne. A lot of people really want to see Airbourne. So much so that they’ve brought out The Forum. And some say Friday 13th is unlucky. Seems like a good omen down under.
