NAMM 2008: Fan on the loose (contd.)
Either before or after the dynamite jam session between George Lynch and Alexi Laiho, (and I’ll never know if it was before or after due to the Hilton’s wonderful Long Island’s) was a feature performance by two of Rock House Method’s students. Fifteen year old Caitlin Kalafus on drums and guitar player Anthony Lawrence.
These two teenagers really owned the stage from the second they started playing and I could see both of them having lengthy and successful musical careers ahead of them. I took this picture of Caitlin the next day and congratulated her on the great job beating her drums to death.
Outside the hotel was a gazebo like area, and I was never at a loss for company. I enjoyed talking metal with Rob Barrett from Cannibal Corpse and Phil Sandoval of Armored Saint among others.

Hey, check this out. I was waiting in line to meet Paul Stanley Saturday morning, enjoying a frothy Guinness before lunch time, and Uli Jon Roth came walking by. I told the guy behind me to save my spot in line and I went over and visited with Uli and took a picture with the maestro. Awesome!

By the end of Saturday night I was walking back to the hotel a little buzzed when the blisters on my feet popped. I had barely sat down or eaten all weekend. There was so much to take in, I’m still remembering stuff. Cars passing by probably thought I was walking like a looney tune after my blisters popped, but oh well. Now I have bloodstained “NAMM Socks” to forever remind me of my Anaheim excursion.
Maybe next year……with a camera crew…..and a professional looking microphone with a Metal-Rules.com logo on it…..and comfortable shoes…..yes……very comfortable shoes.
