Sanchez is a debuting band from < ?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />
Despite the character of the music, keyboards are not in the production; the band relies on lead vocals and a very technical and diverse lead guitar along with a fast and solid rhythm section. Jose Sanchez’ voice is cut out for this music and he sings his brains out in certain songs. He sounds dedicated and true and he really believes in what he sings about which feels fresh and fun.
My personal favorites are “I’m In Love”, “Hot Lips”, “Lies!”, “Funky Town”, “Sometimes” and “The Runner”. Those are glam/hard rock essentials with tempo and a nerve that’s crystal clear. There is some dazzling guitar playing and the lead vocals overpowered me several times. And even though I’m not a huge fan of ballads, I do think that “Don’t Treat Me like a Fool” is a brilliant slow song. “Don’t Treat Me Like A Fool” is featured again as a bonus version in Spanish.
There are, however, a few songs that don’t come up to the same standard as the rest, and that makes the album lull at times. If you look at the title you easily figure out what the songs are mainly about – Love. Two songs that fall flat are “Bad Boys”, which is a blues/hard rock track that sounds more or less like Whitesnake; and the bonus track “Don’t Treat Me like a Fool” in Spanish, which sounds like folk music and not much happens at all.
The production is genuine besides minor flaws like thin guitar playing and the lead vocals being too low in the mix in certain songs. The production feels a bit low budget; maybe this studio doesn’t have the right equipment to do this band justice. Next time, find a studio that can handle this kind of music. Besides that, there is nothing negative to say about the production at all.
The positive things favor Sanchez’ self-titled debut album, but they do have to work on some things before they can receive a jackpot from me. I know the potential is there and I hope for a new album by this 80’s glam/hardrock act real soon.
