Deep Purple

Live At Montreux 2006

2007, Eagle Eye Media

Rating: 4.5/5

Another stellar release from the Eagle Rock company. The ongoing Live At Montreux series is 2nd to none. The quality is always top notch in everyway possible, from audio to video to band performances. This one is no exception as Deep Purple hit the stage as headliner for the closing night of the 40th Festival.

Another performance by Deep Purple at the prestigious and world renown festival is made available to the public. This time their performance was at last years event and shows the band in fine form performing 16 mind blowing tunes from their vast catalog. Having staples like “Pictures of Home”, “Highway Star”, “Hush” and “Black Night” played flawlessly is what makes the band one of the greatest around. Their performance of the infamous “Smoke On The Water” brings a connection to the audience as it was written about this city and an event that took place there many years ago.

While all musicians in the current lineup are amazing it would have been more eventful to have Lord back on Keys and Blackmore on guitar. This may never happen but it would be ideal. Morse does a fantastic job on guitar but for fans of the original/classic lineup it’s just not the same without his signature sound.

A fantastic release that showcases the reasons why Deep Purple is so highly regarded and looked up to. After all these years the band can still play great and Gillan can hit the notes and belt out the tunes.
