Some Kind of Heroin
2007, Earache Records/Sound Pollution
Rating: 1,5/5
The troll-like Norwegian with the long nose is back with a remix album. The album includes re-interpretations and re-workings of material from his latest album THE GRUDGE. Amongst the re-mixers we find names like The Kovenant, PIG, Girls Under Glass and Funker Vogt amongst others. Each re-mixer has created something new from the original version of the song and painted Mortiis compositions in new and challenging ways.

Musically, Mortiis’ industrial metal hasn’t changed very much in the re-mixes; it’s more of a variation on different electric and industrial metal with Mortiis’ unique lead vocals. A few of the re-mixes could easily be played at any club, disco, or rave-party.
The album is really long with 16 re-mixes, many of which are of the same song, so it gets rather boring in the long run. I mean how fun is it to sit and listen to different re-mixes of the same song? A few of the versions that are boring yet listenable are “The Grudge (Gothminster mix)”, “The Grudge (Mental Siege mix)”, “Gibber (PIG remix)”, “Decadent and Desperate (Therafuck remix by Dopestars)”, The Grudge (David Wallace remix)”, and “Way to Wicked (Absinthium mix)”.
This is a cheap way for the labels to earn a few dollars on something that’s not even interesting. Maybe you’ll like it if you’re a huge Mortiis fan, but I doubt that anyone else will appreciate it.
