Classic Albums: Apostrophe/Over-Nite Sensation

Rating: 4/5

An eyebrow raising documentary on 2 of Frank’s greatest and most well known works. As per usual with the Classic Album series the quality is second to none and gives the viewer an in-depth look into the artist, the album(s) and the legacy.

This documentary features candid interviews with the likes of Alice Cooper, Billy Bob Thorton as well as former band-mates such as Steve Vai. You get an insight as to how Frank worked and a better understanding and appreciation for how complex and intricate his music really was. Having Dweezil sitting at the mixing board playing with the levels really shows the complexity of Frank’s music. You hear sounds that you may have not heard before and you hear some that never made the final mix as well.

The behind the scenes of Zappa on tour and the tidbits of interviews with him add to the documentary making it more interesting. Frank’s own words give you that little bit of insight into the mind of the man.

Zappa lived, breathed and slept music. It was his life and he left a vast legacy that nobody will ever surpass. This DVD only touches on his career and what he accomplished and what he could have done if he were still with us.
