A Tribute To Brian Wilson

2007, Eagle Vision

Rating: 3.5

An All Star tribute to Brian Wilson; a living legend. This DVD is documentation to the life of Brian and his major contribution to the music industry. You have many famous artists and performers gathered in the same room for one night to pay homage to this industry great.

The disc starts out with one of it’s highlights and that is a performance by the Red Hot Chili Peppers and their beefed up version of “I Get Around”. Anthony’s vocal’s and < ?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Chad’s heavy hitting drums give this classic Beach Boys track that little extra kick. It retains the great harmony vocal’s of the original which make it a timeless classic. Seeing the late and great Billy Preston on organ is just magnificent. His playing and presence alone is one of the shows standout features. The performance by Jeff Beck on “Surfin’ USA” is jaw droppping to say the least. At first there is technical problems where you cannot hear Jeff play but once he adjusts his amp….all hell breaks loose and he just smoked the place. Seeing Jeff play is just amazing as he is such  a brilliant and magnificent player. His solo is fantastic and really adds to the track and brings it into the new millennium without taking away from the original. Truly the best performance of that evening. Even the man himself gets up and does a few numbers to finish off the night. He still has the voice and sound that made the Beach Boys what they are. Without him they could not have existed.
