One With Everything – Styx & The Contemporary Youth Orchestra

2006, Eagle Vision

Rating: 4/5

Hello Friends!!!!!
A fantastic audio and visual release from one of the greatest bands of all-time. Timeless classics mixed with newer songs make this a DVD worth checking out. The filming is crystal clear and the DTS soundtrack will simply blow you away when turned up on a really good stereo. Hearing the orchestra and choir behind them adds a whole new dimension to the music.

< ?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Tommy Shaw is in fine form and his voice is getting even better as years go on if that is possible. His singing and guitar playing is unparalleled in the genre. There are very few musicians out there with the talent that this guy has. Unfortunatly the only original < ?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Styx member still in the band on a permanent basis is guitarist James “JY” Young. JY has never sounded better and just lets loose and appears to be having the time of his life. Do Young and Shaw ever age??

The band also features Todd on drums and newcomer Ricky Philips on bass. The group is rounded out by Lawrence Gowan on Keyboards and vocals. While Gowan was a decent solo act back in the day he is in no way a suitable singer in Styx. His onstage presence here is just annoying at best. As a keyboardist he should be kept to one side of the stage with a stationary set of keys instead he has this spinning keyboard that he finds quite fascinating and is constantly spinning it. His whole onstage presence is just irritating. They need Dennis DeYoung back in the band, period.

Songwise there is something for everyone from classic Styx hits to a couple of brand new tunes to some never played live gems. A fantastic show for everyone. Original bassist Chuck even makes an appearance for a song which is always great to see.
