Misdemeanours
2006, Escape Music/Zink Music
Rating: 3.5/5
Alibi is a debuting English act which contains well-known musicians like Vince O’Regan from Pulse, Sweat, Hodson, and Bob Catley; and Rick Chase from Mama’s Boys, Gary Moore, Status Quo, Styx, and more. Alibi’s music can best be described as harder melodic hardrock/rock which is dominated by lead vocals and guitars. < ?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Both Vince O’Regan and A.J. Mills bring out the heavy machinery with their guitar work; they are extremely talented at what they do. Rick Chase has a perfect voice for this kind of music and he sounds great on all 13 tracks, even if not all the tracks sound great.
There are three ballads on the album which I think is two too many. The material is alright, if not a bit ordinary in some of the songs. The cover of Neil Young’s “Rocking in the Free World” is butchered by Alibi; they don’t do the song the least bit of justice. The album peaks with “Get Ready”, “No Reason”, “Out Of Love”, “Who’s Foolin Who”, “Lost On The Inside”, and “Promises”, all of which are brilliant melodic hardrock songs with choruses that plant themselves inside your head on the first listening.
MISDEMEANOURS has its moments and it’s worth listening to if you’re into the melodic hardock genre. Alibi is currently preparing to tour, so catch them live if you have the opportunity.
