S/t – EP
Dang-A-Lang Music/Border Music
Wit is now a pretty familiar face within the music scene in their hometown of Malmö, Sweden. The guys have appeared both as headline and as support to famous acts like David Coverdale’s Whitesnake and From Behind. The drummer Johan Helgesson is also involved in Debase and as a drummer in the ex- Iron Maiden vocalist Paul DiAnno’s live band.
The main purpose the guys had when they started Wit was simply to play the music they all love best: old 70’s hardrock in the same vein as Thin Lizzy, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. After a lot of search for labels the guys got tired of not getting anywhere, so instead they started a label of their own called Dang-A-Lang Music, and this EP is the first taste of what we can expect from this trio. The EP is recorded in both Tambourine Studio in Malmö and Ping Pong Music in Arlöv. The guys produced it themselves and Tore Johnson mixed it. I guess the guys knew exactly what they wanted the production to sound like because the whole EP reeks of the good old 70’s groove like I guess the guys aimed for.
6 songs are featured, not long songs because the entire EP clocks in at 20 minutes, give or take. The singer/guitarist Pece Masalkovski has written all the songs, and he’s done a terrific job to say the least. It’s really hard to pick out any favorite, but if I have to, and I do, I’ll pick “Rebel Girl”, “Shake It”, “A Little Love” and of course my all time high with Wit the spectacular “Demonic” that simply drags you up off your chair and slaps you around.
Mr. Masalkovski has an excellent voice that really fits the 70’s-style music, and sometimes he sounds a lot like Phil Lynott, which ought to be an honour for Mr. Masalkovksi. He and Peter Broch on bass make an excellent front duo and are heavily backed up by the incredible drummer Mr. Helgesson who is one of the best drummers in Sweden today. If you haven’t understood yet, this EP is a great nostalgic fix for 70’s junkies and for everyone who likes well-played, ass-kicking rock for that matter. I really hope to see a studio album from these guys soon because believe me, you won’t be disappointed.
Pece Masalkovski – vocals, guitar
