Rating: 2.5/5

Relapsed has had a few other band names prior to this one. They have been called Caught in the Act, Cita and Guild of Ages since they started out in 1988. It took them 7 years to release their debut album, but they did it under the name Caught in the Act. Original members Danny, Joe and Rob met up in 2003 and jammed together. They all liked it and decided once again to team up and in 2004 Brian joined them and a long-awaited comeback was a fact.

You can say that Relapsed plays a kind of melodic hardrock with a lot of edgy guitar play. Amongst the 12 original tracks we find a cover of the old Queen classic “I Want It All”. The main problem I have with this album is the material that sometimes feels too anonymous, but there are a few highlights squeezed in like “Undone”, “Broken”, “The Other Side”, and “Generation”. All of those tracks are really well-played melodic rock added with really nice choirs and riffing twin guitar play. “I Want It All” is a nice tribute song to the legendary Queen, but in my opinion they should have added more of the Relapsed sound instead of staying so true to the original.

There are so many great acts at the moment in this particular genre so I think it’s going to be quite hard for Relapsed to get a big breakthrough. Even so, they sure have a solid foundation to stand on so maybe we’ll hear more from them in the near future. The INTO A FORMER STATE experience is nice but only nice, and nice doesn’t get you far. They have to adjust their material a little more to get my full attention.

Danny Martinez – lead vocals, guitar
Brian Mesa – lead guitar, vocals
Joe MArone – bass
Rob Marone – drums
