Survivor – Reach
Released: 2006, Frontiers Records /Zink Music | Rating: 3/5 | Reviewer: Anders Sandvall

Jim Peterik and Frankie Sullivan started Survivor back in 1977 and I’d guess that Survivor is mostly known to the masses for the Rocky 3 song “Eye Of The Tiger”. After the album TO HOT TO SLEEP in 1988 the members went their separate ways, but now 17 years later, it’s time for Survivor to gather themselves for another release.

Survivor has a lot to prove with REACH. They have had numerous single hits that have climbed high on charts world wide. To replace Jim they have taken in lead vocalist Jimi Jamison from Cobra on lead vocals. Just as before, Survivor’s music in the melodic rock department and together the band forms a strong unit that really knows how to deliver brilliant music with impact. REACH was recorded during three months at the end of 2005 and all of the 12 songs are brand new with not a cover-song in sight. The material ought to satisfy both older as well as newer fans. All of the songs except “Seconds Away”, “One More Chance”, “The Rhythm Of Your Heart”, “Half Of My Life” and “Home” which ALL are ballads, are of a more melodic rock flair. The mix of songs are nice with both faster songs and ballads blended together. But overall, there are too many ballads and this therefore drops the album rating quite a bit. But Survivor flexes their muscles and show that they still are a melodic rock force to reckon with.

Once this album is out, the guys plan to come over to Europe to do shows. Killer tracks are all songs that aren’t ballads!
