Lou Reed
Live At Montreux 2000

2005, Eagle Vision
4/5

The man, The legend….Lou Reed is captured in crystal clear video as he performs at the Montreux Jazz Festival back in 2000. From being an intergral member of The Velvet Underground back in the late 60’s to his current solo material he has been through it all.

Filmed while he was out in support of his ECTASY album the video contains many songs from that disc as well as select few from his earlier recordings. This is the only drawback to the DVD: not enough of his more popular tunes. Reed let’s the music speak for itself as he is pretty silent between songs and does not move around on stage much.
His storytelling lyrics are his focus and Lou and band execute them with the utmost precision. They are all exceptional musicians that are obviously not relying on theatrics to sell tickets. Reed’s almost talking like form of singing are perfect for getting his story’s across to the audience.

Sonically the DTS track really brings the bass forward and gives your sub a small bit of a workout without being over the top.
Judging from this show a Lou Reed concert would be well worth seeing, not for the visual but for the music on its own.
