Does anyone still remember names from a nearly forgotten Finnish Death Metal scene such as Funebre, Abhorrence, Xysma, Disgrace, Convulse, Phlegethon, Demigod, Purtenance, Cartilage, Demilich, Vomiturition, etc. etc. All those bands made the Finnish Death Metal scene worthwhile and darn interesting in the first half of the 90īs until many bands from this particular genre just seemed to vanish away rather mysteriously due a number of different reasons. In many cases it seemed to happen suddenly.

For a relatively long time, we Finnish metalheads basically somehow lost all these "important" bands from our once so strong Death Metal scene. Some of the bands developed their style into a less Death Metal orientated style. Others chose to completely throw away their Death Metal roots to continue with new fields of metal music and some simply split up for good. Within a few years, the Finnish Death Metal scene was replaced by such acts Children of Bodom, Nightwish, Moonsorrow, Thy Serpent, The Black League, Eternal Tears of Sorrow, Sonata Arctica, etc. - all good bands at their own unique style, but didnīt have anything in common with the brutality and heaviness of the past Finnish Death Metal scene at all.

But as it seems to many of us, some certain genres of metal seem to go in cycles. Thatīs what I believe has happened with the Death Metal scene in Finland during the last 2-3 years or so and itīs still strengthening itself and getting stronger all the time. I decided to dig this new fertile ground for some new Finnish Death Metal acts a bit deeper than just scratch its surface and introduce a heavy fistful of some of the best Death metal bands that has been produced in Finland within these last few years.

Now prepare to enjoy a ride with 11 newcomers in the Finnish Death Metal map... and I warn you in advance that this particular ride may be īa bitī longer than one might expect at first... ;)

Editor's Note: This is the second in depth report on the Finnish extreme metal scene from Luxi. I hope you've all read Luxi's first feature which provided an interesting look into the world of Finnish Speed/Thrash metal. Again the layout for this massive feature is broken down into a series of pages. The link to read on to the next part of the feature can be found at the bottom of each page. Thanks to the bands for providing the pics to us. While reading along, if you wonder what band a pic if for, simply hover your mouse over the picture and a handy tool tip will reveal the band name...enjoy.

Onto Part 1 of the feature...
