INTERZONE:The "Re-Animation" of Canadian Metal?
Compiled By EvilG in 2000

One of the superior new metal bands to emerge from Canada is Toronto's Interzone. The band is comprised of Rob Urbinati (guitars and vocals), Drew Gauley (drums), Kevin Wimberley (bass) and Junior (guitar). For me, the coolest thing about this band is the fact that in a way it represents the continuation of the thrash legends - Sacrifice. Sacrifice formed back in 1985 and released four full length albums before their break-up in 1994 after the release of perhaps their best work - 1993's "Apocalypse Inside." According to Rob, the music climate had changed and so had the likes of many of the fans, leaving Sacrifice with no label and disappointing sales...a sad end to a great band. It's now five years later and from the ashes of this legendary band emerges a new diabolical musical vision under the moniker INTERZONE. Rob's vast abilities to literally obliterate all weak metal trends is still more than apparent!

Sacrifice, the 1987 line-up

Interzone - martains!Uniting with ex-Mundane / Monster Voodoo Machine drummer Drew Gauley, Interzone's sound spectrum has been infused with ample abrasive devices, mountains of thunder and rapid tempo fluctuations that summon the spirits of the most lethal sounds of the old school.

Rounding out the line-up are Soulstorm / Monster Voodoo Machine guitarist Junior and full-time bassist Kevin Wimberley, who has in the past toured with Sacrifice and also plays and records with the, at times, idle Canadian band Entropy.

Since their inception Interzone has recorded only two demos, none of which were officially released. These two demo tapes impressed Utopian Vision Music's Ed Balog so much that he offered the band a deal in the spring of 1998.

In the fall of '98 Interzone entered into Toronto's "Halla Music" to record their first full length CD "Cydonia." This CD is nostalgic but at the same time sounds more alive and vital  then many a new band.
