Honorable Mention:

Vollmer – Get Your Hands Dirty
Helix frontman’s solo LP of covers, a re-worked Helix track and the original title track. Killer LP from top to bottom.

Best EP

Greta Van Fleet – Black Smoke Rising

Best Packaging

Metallica – Master Of Puppets (Super Deluxe Edition)

Best Re-Issues

(Tie) Kreator and Celtic Frost

These reissues for me were the greatest of the year. Hell, it’s because of my love of Frost that I became Celtic Bob back in the 80’s.

Best Live Album

Dead Daisies – Live and Louder

Best Covers Album

Motorhead – Undercover

Best Concert

HELIX
 – Saw Canadian Icons HELIX twice in 2017. The first was outside at a street festival for Canada’s 150th and the second was in a club a few months later. Always a good show with these being my 9th and 10th time seeing them. Look forward to more in 2018.

Best New Band

Damn Freaks & Syteria (Tie)

My Favorite Discoveries of 2017 was…

Some killer hard driving Rock n Roll. Impossible to choose one. Love the heaviness and 80’s feel from Syteria and the Zep influence in Greta Van Fleet. Also discovered Night Flight Orchestra and another new band, Damn Freaks. The Vollmer solo LP made me haul out my old Alex Harvey disc so it’s all good.

Disappointments of 2017

Loss of Celtic Frost’s Martin Eric Ain

Hopes for 2018

Canadian bands Killer Dwarfs, Kick Axe and Brighton Rock release new music and tour Canada.
