Live At The Hollywood Bowl (DVD)
2017, Eagle Vision
Jeff Beck is a guitar God!
He is an influence to many and one listen to his old records and it is easy to know why.
I first heard of Jeff Beck back in the 80’s when I was first discovering music and Mick Mars mentioned him in the Motley VHS, UNCENSORED (How’s that for dating myself?). Immediately thereafter I started noticing his name in magazines such as Circus and Hit Parader as well as in the liner notes of my LP’s and tapes. I never knew at the time it was his playing that I was hearing on the radio with Rod Stewart, Yardbirds, even his solo material. Fast forward a few years and Columbia House has a ‘Boxed Set Sale’ and I bought the BECKOLOGY CD set. That was where I dove in and discovered his music in depth. I gained a whole new appreciation for him then and there.
Here we are some 30 years later and Eagle Vision release his Hollywood Bowl concert on DVD for us all to enjoy in recognition of his 50 year career. One watch of this show and you clearly see why he’s been around so long. His playing and sound is like no other. He’s not a flashy, in your face player, just melodic and smooth. His playing encompasses a perfect mix of Rock and Blues with a hint of funky soul added in making him a true original.
This DVD hilights his career and features guest appearances by the likes of Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top) and Steven Tyler (Aerosmith). The latter’s performance was the show’s pinnacle for me as I am a big Aero-Fan. It may have been his “Train Kept A Rollin’” That I first knowingly heard a Beck tune. It was either that or my buddy’s LP of GUITAR SHOP.
Fantastic DVD from all angles. Sound and vision are top notch. Everything is crystal clear and well mixed. Crank it up and enjoy!
