Vhaldemar are one of those heavy metal bands who embrace their heavy metal greatness will full on passion. Where some “metal heads” say bands like Hammerfall, Anvil, or Manowar have a ‘cheesy’ factor to their lyrics about heavy metal, I on the other hand truly enjoy it. Listening to a bands fight and or love for metal, no matter how goofy it may come across is in fact, true metal. It works for the mighty Priest. And it also works for Valdemar.

I don’t know exactly what it is about Vhaldemar, but I like it. From start to finish these guys lay it all out in pure metal glory. Vhaldemar have been tearing it up since forming in 1999. They quickly became a force to reckon with within the power metal scene in Spain. With a brief hiatus in the 2000’s (03-11) which I suppose is a little longer then brief, have come back with a vengeance with AGAINST ALL KINGS. Their brand of head banging metal is of the 80’s style for the most part. That was an era in time when heavy metal was truly heavy metal. They have that old school feel while coming off with a fresh sound all their own. The guitar work of Pedro J. Monge is nothing short of superb. In general, the riffs Pedro and Carlos have worked up for this release are very memorable and heavy. The originality of sound throughout the disc, while not straying far from others in the genre is what I think I have enjoyed most.

From first listen, I was sold on Vhaldemar. With songs filled with power, epic battle hymns, and the fight for metal. Musically, they deliver right up the alley of heavy metal greatness. I cannot think of a moment on the disc that I was not happy with as a metal fan. Fans of the above mentioned bands as well as Gamma Ray, Accept, Grave Digger will highly enjoy this.

So get up off your ass, throw those horns up high and bang that fuckin’ head, cause this is a fight for metal. Metal till the end! “Heavy Metal Is The Law”. Get ready for one of the best releases of the year!
