On September 8th Alice Cooper will be releasing a unique DVD, Welcome To My Nightmare Special Edition via Eagle Rock Entertainment.
The DVD features the pairing of his 1975 TV special Alice Cooper: The Nightmare, (on DVD for the first time) and his 1976 Welcome To My Nightmare concert.
Both shows offer fans a retrospective look into the infancy of Alice’s career and based off Alice’s concept CD, Welcome To My Nightmare, where he portrays a journey through the nightmares of a child named Steven.
Songs like “Schools Out,” “Only Women Bleed,” “Billion Dollar Babies,”, “Welcome to My Nightmare,” “No More Mr. Nice Guy,” “I’m Eighteen,” and “Department Of Youth” are intermixed with dancers dressed as monsters, bats, spiders, and ghouls acting out his nightmarish fantasy. Being the master of macabre, you can see where Alice’s trademark effects started.
I asked Alice about the importance of his performances and what goes into them, he told me, “My show has a reputation that its goings to be different from anything they have even seen before. Even if they have seen it before, there will be some new aspect or some new song that we added to change it up. No matter if we are playing in front of 500 people or 5 million, we’ll give it our all and make it the best show you have ever seen. We really only know how to do it that one way! When the curtain goes up, it’s an all out assault on the audience. When I get off stage, and I’m exhausted I know that I gave that audience everything I have! And the next night I’m going to do it all over again. I never get tired of the songs once I see the crowd’s reaction to the opening guitar on “I’m Eighteen”, “Poison”, or “No More Mr. Nice Guy”. If you have a toothache or a headache the adrenaline kicks in and takes care of it once you hit the stage.
Fan will tell you that Alice still embraces the raw grittiness and glam appeal he did decades ago. He is the ultimate performer and always gives his audience 110%. Be sure to check out this tremendous DVD offering.
