What can one say about Steel Panther? Other than they rock and are “hair-larious” in a live setting. Not much. I can tell you that back when they first released FEEL THE STEEL, I was not totally sold on them. I was being asked by a bunch of peers if I had listened to them yet. The answer was no. I went and picked it up. Gave it a spin and was not totally into it. One thing I can say, is that the one or two times I listened to it, I was pre occupied with something or another and really didn’t listen to it. It got tossed into the ‘whatever’ pile.
It wasn’t but a year or two later that I caught them live in Chicago. It was one of the best live performances I had ever seen. Believe it. I was in tears for most of the set as the rhetoric that all the members use during their set was spot on. Funny shit. Needless to say, I have been a fan ever since. I have seen them three times now and look forward to the fourth. With all that being said, I know from year to year, more and more metal heads are embracing the Panther. You don’t have to be strictly a hair metal fan to enjoy the rock your ass off music that Steel Panther plays. And if that isn’t enough, lyrically you get the over the top usage of drugs, hookers, whores, and alcohol, ect., ect.
I don’t even think I need to tell you about the lyrics on their latest comedic masterpiece, LOWER THE BAR. All you have to do is read the track listing. They are pretty self-explanatory. I do however use the term masterpiece loosely. Musically and lyrically, this is a great release. LOWER THE BAR seems to just roll along with the same formula as their previous releases. Not that that is bad, but after a few releases, as a fan, you just wonder how many more different ways can they sing about blow jobs, pussy, cocaine, and anal? For 2017, the answer is 11.
LOWER THE BAR is another great Steel Panther album. It made me laugh; it made me cry; and made me go EEWWW! I’m sure it will for you as well.
