Live In Munich 2012 captures the final concert on the Scorpions Sting In The Tale world tour at the Olympiahalle in Munich on December 17th, 2012.
You know what? It was about time Scorpions released a new live in concert DVD and such is the case with the blockbuster FOREVER AND A DAY LIVE IN MUNICH 2012 filmed at the Olympiahalle in Munich, Germany on December 17, 2012 during the band’s flashy “Sting In The Tail” supposed farewell tour.
The Scorps start the evening off with “Sting In The Tail” the title track from their 17th studio album. The backdrop features lights galore, massive video screens and a walkway that Rudolf and Klaus utilize for maximum effect, taking the hard rock up close and personal to fans in the front. James Kottak sits atop an enormous drum riser pounding away as the famed band of German metal merchants deliver hit after hit including “Is There Anybody There?” “The Zoo” “Coast To Coast” “Loving You Sunday Morning” “We’ll Burn The Sky” I mean the list goes on and on. When you have a band with a back catalogue as rich as Scorpions you know you’re in for one hell of a show!
Of course there are the ballads too and this is usually the best part in the show to get up and use the men’s room or stand in line for another beer. The band make room for “Send Me An Angel” “Still Loving You” and “Wind of Change” and your girlfriend will likely appreciate this. I can remember catching Scorpions on the “Sting In The Tail” tour and what a larger than life spectacle for a band we all feared was nearing the end of their (now) 50+ year career. Luckily, for all of us die hard fans, the band continues to rock sold out arenas in big city nights to this very day. (Also, of note to die hard fans, this DVD is available in Blu-ray format also.)
Probably the only thing that could have made this DVD even more over the top would have been some special guest appearances from former members like Francis Bucholz, Herman Rarebell, Michael Schenker and of course Uli Jon Roth. The fact that the band knew they were filming what was supposedly their farewell DVD and still omitted said guest appearances makes me wonder… hmmm…
FOREVER AND A DAY LIVE IN MUNICH 2012 is sure to please long time Scorpions fans and would probably serve as an excellent introduction to the music of Scorpions for all of the really dumb and boring people who have never heard their music before. Bring the coliseum to your living room and crack open a cold one! This DVD belongs in your collection!
