In the middle of July it was time for the annual Summer Rock festival to take place and as always the festival was held at Friluftsbadet in Svedala, a small town outside Malmoe. Last year the organizers narrowed down the festival and instead of three stages there were two stages, and that was also the case this year. The first three-day tickets at reduced price were announced to the public in January and sold out by February. Despite the choice to keep the festival smaller, the first bands booked were big Swedish acts Backyard Babies, Jill Johnson, Electric Banana Band, Colorstone, Miriam Bryant and the Kiss tribute act Dressed To Thrill. The festival offers bands for all ages and musical tastes which makes the festival pretty unique in this day and age.
The festival’s cooperation with the organization Young Cancer continued this year and it was possible to visit Young Cancer’s tent and buy merchandise, hang out, and talk to people from the organization. The bands that ended each day were Rickfors, Rydé and Hylander on Thursday, Backyard Babies on Friday, and Takida on Saturday. All acts during all the festival were given 60 minutes to perform except for the headliners which had 65 – 75 minutes. The curfew was set to 12am and the area closed one hour later. Because of work and other commitments we sadly weren’t able to attend the first day of the festival.
