Best of 2015 – Infamous Butcher

Top Albums of 2015

  1. Malevolent Creation – Dead Man’s Path

The album is a full out assault! Brett Hoffman is at the top of his game here, sounding as furious as he did back in 1992 on RETRIBUTION, still able to elongate a growl like nobody else can, see “Fragmental Sanity” for the best example of this. The chugging riffing is fantastic, reminiscent of TEN COMMANDMENTS, catchy and a touch thrashy . Drumming is intense and sick; Justin DiPinto is doing a great job following in the footsteps of prior Malevolent drummers like Alex Marquez and Dave Culross. There are no filler tracks here; everything is killer and exactly what a death metal fan wants, unrelenting flowing brutality with hooky riffs and breakdowns.

  2. Grave – Out of Respect For the Dead

Old school death metal fans love consistency and Sweden’s Grave is one of the most dependably brutal bands out there. 24 years after their genre defining debut INTO THE GRAVE, Grave is still putting out quality punishing, dark themed death metal. The aptly titled OUT OF RESPECT FOR THE DEAD is another exercise in lead heavy riffs, thunderous drumming, ominous moods, and guttural vocals.

  3. Motorhead – Bad Magic

Sounds exactly like you think it would – loud, raunchy and fun! 40 years into their career, Lemmy and the boys can still put out a great album. Consistency is their middle name. BAD MAGIC immediately kicks you in the ass with “Victory or Die”; a fast Motorhead barnstormer that starts with Lemmy yelling a split second before the ginga ginga bass and guitar kick in with Mikkey’s insane drumming! I immediately smiled and started banging my head!

  4. Gruesome – Savage Land

Death Metal supergroup does early Death worship! If you love LEPROSY, SPIRITUAL HEALING, and HUMAN, then you’ll love this! Nothing original here but that is the idea! Great catchy riffs, killer drums and bass, Chuck-esque vocals from Mr. Harvey.

  5. Slayer – Repentless

Many fans have turned their backs on Slayer, saying they shouldn’t continue without Jeff and Dave. Indeed, how could Slayer continue without their main songwriter Jeff? Would a new album be watered down crap or what? Well, now we know that Slayer can still bring it in their 50s without Jeff and Dave, even if REPENTLESS can’t compare to their classic 80s / early 90s material.

  6. Entrails – Obliteration
  7. Darkapathy – Condemned in Black
  8. Iron Maiden – Book of Souls
