The month of October means the imminent arrival of the Heavy Metal Holy Day…Halloween! This, the scariest and Metal-est of all months, we bring you five new topics for our editorial column FROM HELL’S HEART. Each week we will post the staff Top Five songs based on classic Halloween/Horror monsters. Week 1 was Frankenstein, 2 Ghosts, 3 Zombies, 4 Vampires, and for the final week, the subject is werewolves! Please join us and enjoy all of our theme columns this month and have a happy Hell-o-ween!

Staff Selections

Waspman

1. Ozzy Osbourne – Bark at the Moon

Sure the video for this song is campy as hell (in a good way!), but the music is all business; Ozzy wasted no time showing off his new guitarist at the time (Jake E. Lee) with this ripping werewolf’s tale.

2. Sonata Arctica – Full Moon
This is probably the least vicious track on my list, but damn if this “traipsing through the flowers” version of a werewolf song (how’s that for an image?) isn’t the catchiest and most memorable one!

3. Iced Earth – Wolf
I could cut & paste what I said about “Dracula” for the Vampire-themed entries and put it here…with “Wolf”, Iced Earth gave us an excellent, cinematic, and menacing song about werewolves that deserves a place on this list.

4. Primordial – Lain with the Wolf
I don’t know for sure if this song is about werewolves, but it can certainly be interpreted that way. Primordial tends to write more cerebral music than most and this lengthy, heavy, and disturbing track fits the bill.

5. Saxon – Night of the Wolf
Saxon’s been truly rejuvenated on their last couple of albums so highlighting this excellent wolven track is fitting given that they’re releasing their new album this October (2015)!
