Honorable mention (that I forgot about until I after I had my top 5): Dr. Stein by Helloween!

Erich

1.        Iced Earth – Frankenstein
Very likely this will be on most staff lists and why not?  Iced Earth will probably have many songs on Halloween compilations this year simply because of the HORROR SHOW album.  It is a cool tune though, with lyrics that actually delve a bit into the psyche of Victor Frankenstein, a question that is so relevant with genetic engineering these days; “If God can, then why can’t I?”  Barlow delivers his usual multiple vocal personas behind a decent, but not amazing chord progression from Schaefer.

2.       Helloween – Dr. Stein
Hell yes!  An unexpectedly happy take on Dr. Frankenstein, and it was a huge hit for the band in Germany.  No list about Frankenstein should be without this song.  Helloween, as usual, nails it while taking some liberties with the actual story.

3.       Overkill- Frankenstein (Edgar Winter Cover)
This song makes my list twice in recent weeks.  The original, is of course decent, but very bluesy.  Overkill totally metalizes this song making it a real neck wrecker.

4.        Alice Cooper – Teenage Frankenstein
Alice made a bit of a resurgence in the late 80’s and this was one of the better tunes on CONSTRICTOR.  Besides, how can anything than an Alice Cooper song about Frankenstein be any more appropriate on Halloween?

5.       Rob Zombie – Jesus Frankenstein
Rob Zombie really dumbed his sound down on HELLBILLY DELUXE, but this is a fairly ambitious and thumping track from the special edition.  It definitely fits the theme and is an overlooked tune from the man.

Waspman

1. Iced Earth – Frankenstein
2. Alice Cooper – Feed My Frankenstein

3. Lordi – Nailed by the Hammer of Frankenstein
4. Stormwitch – Frankenstein’s Brothers
5. Early Man – Frankenstein (I’m Dead Alive)

Helias

1. Iced Earth – Frankenstein
2. Alice Cooper – Feed My Frankenstein
3. Stormwitch – Frankenstein’s Brothers

4. Sex Machineguns – Frankenstein
5. Lordi – Nailed by the Hammer of Frankenstein

Brat

1. Feed My Frankenstein – Alice Cooper
2. Frankenstein – Iced Earth
3. Frankenstein – Sex Machineguns (Japan)

Oliver Manso

This one was very tough for me. I’ve only got a top 2 for that one.

1) Iced Earth “Frankenstein” 2001 (from one of their best albums “Horror Show”)
2) Alice Cooper “Feed my Frankenstein” 1991 (classic glam metal song)
