Cinderella has long been a favourite of mine since I first heard the NIGHT SONGS tape that Evil G had back in the day. Since then I have seen them live a few times and always a great show. Unfortunately they have stopped making albums as Cinderella but we are finally getting new music from them individually. Last year we got Tom Keifer’s fantastic album THE WAY LIFE GOES and Eric is working on a new album with The Devil City Angels with Rikki Rockett and Tracii Guns. Like his fellow band-mates, Jeff has been pretty quiet outside of touring with Cinderella except for being a part of the short lived Naked Beggars with fellow Cinderella band-mate Eric Brittingham. Finally we get some new music from him, and it doesn’t disappoint.
While only 7 songs long Jeff’s solo debut is not what I was expecting. I was expecting a heavily Blues-based Rock album but got a Hard Rock album that Rocks….hard. It kicks off with the first single “No Strings” which kind of sets the tone for the album although the second track really surprised me as it’s intro sounded like “Balls To The Wall” by Accept and the whole track is just as heavy while “Muse” is reminiscent of HOUSES OF THE HOLY-era Zep with a tinge of “Behind Blue Eyes”. Obviously the “Ode To Page” has that influence as well. Not bad comparisons if you ask me. These are the only places where Jeff’s influences are truly that in your face. The track “Nightmare On My Street” is probably the heaviest on the album. Think 70’s Alice Cooper just heavier. Fantastic song and one of the standouts. Everything about it is pure Metal. Jeff ends off on a bit of a lighter note with the title track that is a mid-tempo heavy rocker. Another standout.
The entire disc is is a bit of a departure from his Cinderella output but isn’t that the point of a solo album? Either way it’s good that he is still creating new music for us to purchase. Hopefully they can keep their creative juices flowing and give the fans what they really want, a new Cinderella album.
