Sunday was a more like a girlie band on the main stages. The Swedish dance metal shooting star made the Finnish crowd dance and twist their hips. Amanthra being a metal band? Definitely not, next time this sort of dance acts can be booked to some everything-to-everyone festival.

BARBE-Q-BARBIES
Barbe-Q-Barbies continued the female energy on the second stage. The Helsinki based rock outfit rocked hard and free, putting the male audience down to their knees. All right Barbe-Q-Barbies would be more rocking hard and tighter in a small smoky club environment than being on the stage at an open air festival. However a nice gig from Barbies, but a worth to check out if someone digs the straight forward rock stuff with the Female grip.

STRATOVARIUS
Finnish power metallers Stratovarius have gone through so many changes during their almost 30 year career that it is not possible to even remember all the chapters. It’s true that there are no original members in the line-up, in fact there hasn’t been any since 1996 when drummer Tuomo Lassila left the band, but despite all the changes Stratovarius is still alive and well. The latest incarnation of the band consist of two members of bands “golden era” vocalist Timo Kotipelto and Jens Johansson, bassist Lauri Porra, guitarist Matias Kupiainen and the latest addition drummer Rolf Pilve. Stratovarius is now living a new upswing after few difficult years and the main reason for that is the band’s excellent NEMESIS album. New album track “Abandon” opened the show followed by classic “Speed of Light” and the latest single “Halcyon Days” which witnessed the power of the new album. The good-humored Kotipelto led the band in style and Johansson’s appearance on the stage was as insane as always whereas the others focused more on playing. The bands one hour set consisted of four new album tracks, a set of mandatory classics “Kiss of Judas”, Hunting High and Low” and “Against the Wind” and a welcome surprise “Phoenix” which hasn’t been played live in years. Overall, the Stratovarius show was very entertaining, and it should have been longer.

BATTLE BEAST
Battle Beast went thru the radical singer changes before hitting the studio to work on the follow-up to the first album. The new front lady appeared to be a real cat and the second album got catapulted to the album chart with the high ranking. Therefore the audience appeared to be thrilled to have Battle Beast as a replacement for Asking Alexandra. The area was entirely packed when beasts hit the stage. The set was kicked off by “Let It Roar”. In general the list was based on the newer material off from the second album. Yes the new frontlady is a real dominating cat controlling and whipping the audience to go utter beserk.

NIGHTWISH
Nightwish has increased in recent years, not only as Finland’s leading export product, but at the same time the whole family entertainer from which all seem to like no matter or age or gender. It is difficult to say whether this was Tuomas Holopainen’s vision from the beginning, but it is fact that the band the band was now attended by far the largest audience during the whole weekend. The band opened with ONCE album track “Dark Chest of Wonders” followed by one of their biggest hits “I Wish I Had An Angel”. Tons of pyro was used and the stage construction looked great, including Holopainen massive structures etc. The bands “temporary” vocalist Floor Jansen was just amazing on stage! Her large scale vocals fit perfectly for both new and older material and, unlike her predecessors, she was very active performer on stage. The band’s set list understandably focused on the two newer albums but it was great to hear some older classics like “She Is My Sin” and “Ever Dream” as well. In fact, the set list was very well built with the exception of worn out version Gary Moore cover “Over the Hills and Far Away” which was completely useless. Regardless that little cosmetic flaw the rest was a pure perfectionism. Like said before, Jansen was really good on her own spot and bassist/vocalist Marco Hietala challenged her well on stage. The band played really tight, a stage show was impressive and audience knew most of the songs by heart. Nightwish indeed is the whole nation’s entertainment, but I guess there is no harm in that!?
