EPICA, ReVamp @ Scala, London

EPICA with support: Revamp

@ Scala, London

15th March 2011

Review: Danny Draper

While traveling to the Scala, I was contemplating a couple of things; I hope that the sound is good and also that the singers have brought their good voice today.

I do like a female vocalist, soaring vocals over heavy guitars, gets my juices flowing as they say! But it has to be good, especially in this style of music as a poor sound or vocal performance, can turn the most beautiful of song in to the worst thing in the world.

Gladly, all was well with these guys!

Revamp had a little bit more bite with their sound than the headliners, with Floor Jansen providing some growls as well as ear bending but beautiful falsettos.

The room is near to capacity for these guys, although, after the end of a few songs there’s a polite applause and then a stony silence.

Floor in a very good display of showmanship interacts and engages the crowd to get louder! Playing through some fast paced material like "Fast Forward" and "Here’s my Hell".

Revamp are quite a good band, it is typical sometimes to find a good looking female at the front of the band, but it’s justifiable when they sing this well! The rest of the band are on form too, not missing a note and unrelenting in their swagger on stage.

A great set and a band to keep tabs on.

Epica’s flame haired maiden Simone Simmons sings like an angel, backed by heavy riffs that leave the crowd screaming for more.

The crowd are loving the spectacle, one of the top bands in symphonic metal, bouncing to beat of this very well adept band. They are a very good band at that and the sound from anywhere tonight is good.

It’s so packed in the Scala tonight that it’s almost impossible to get to the bar or the loo, only almost though!

They play a great set.

The band themselves are solid, tight and dutifully in an energetic mood for tonight’s gig which is a massive plus!

Sometimes you may see a band going through the motions but not tonight, Epica vibrated around the stage like bass amp on 11!

Epica were epic like their name sake and I give them a 5/5.

Revamp did themselves proud and have a devoted following and also deserve a 5/5 for a very good all round performance.

What a great gig, great music and great bands!
