Progrock 2009 – the first edition of the festival
Metal Mind Productions is proud to announce the first edition of the progressive rock festival – Progrock 2009.
Katowice slowly becomes the most important mark on the map of the current progressive rock scene in Poland. The fantastic stage at the Wyspianski Theatre has witnessed live shows of many important bands like Pendragon, Credo, Final Conflict, SBB, Satellite, Arena, Landmarq, Galahad, Caamora… The shows at the theatre are acquireing a cult status among the fans of progressive rock, but also among the Artists themselves – the Wyspianski Theatre turned out to be not only a convenient place for such shows but also a very atmospheric, magical place. There will be another chance to prove it in February 2009 during the two day’s Festival – Progrock 2009.
Progrock Festival 2009
16 – 17 February 2009
Katowice, Wyspiański Theatre
The bands to appear at the festival are:
A legend of Polish music scene. The band returns with a new studio album entitled “Iron Curtain” on 26th January 2009. SBB, comprised of the phenomenal composer Józef Skrzek, the excellent guitarist Apostolis Anthimos and the flawless drummer Gabor Nemeth, plans to support the release with a tour with its final show at the Wyspiański Theatre!
A recently re-united band that brought their fans the albums “Ring of Roses”, “Through the Looking Glass” and “Mad as a Hatter” are going out on tour again for the first time in over twelve years! The current line-up: Clive Nolan (Pendragon, Caamora, Arena, Neo) – Vocals and Piano, Karl Groom (Threshold, Strangers on a Train) – Guitar, Mike Varty (Script for a Jester’s Tour, Credo) – Keyboards and BVs, Mark Westwood (Caamora, Neo) – Bass and Acoustic Guitar, Nick Harradence (NW10) – Drums. To celebrate their return, Shadowland will be releasing a ‘best of’ album (called ‘A Matter of Perspective’) featuring their favorite tracks from the three previously released (but now unavailable) albums, and also boasting some brand new material. This CD will be available from February 2009.
Tinyfish are a London five piece band with a deep and abiding interest in all forms of progressive music. The group formed in late 2004 as an acoustic outfit playing the open mic spots of the capital. However, as the band’s material grew in complexity, this became unworkable and they took the decision to venture on as a full progressive rock band. Tinyfish exists largely because of the friendship that thrives between the members and the personal chemistry which naturally results from knowing someone both socially and musically for over twenty years. The band’s self-titled debut album from 2006 received enthusiastic reviews from worldwide media and brought them many devoted fans…
This German progressive rock band was formed in 1997 as a Pink Floyd cover band. After three years they started to write their own music based on their influences from their ‘cover band’ era. Their debut album from 2000 entitled "God Has Failed" received an international praise and excellent reviews in all major progressive rock music magazines. In February 2008 the band released their fifth studio album "The RPWL Experience". It’s an album that ventures into new musical and lyrical dimensions, while sounding very consistent. “We simply made into music what we ourselves enjoy. We didn’t want to hold back or apply the RPWL filter, but let our ideas run riot with musical lightness.”
This Finish band plays melodic progressive rock that varies from gentle ambient atmospheres via more traditional rock to heavier moments. Their highly anticipated third studio album "And We’re Not Here After All" was released in September 2008 by Musea records. The album is a very personal and introspective trip into the most basic of human instincts: the will to live. Needless to say, it has its share of ecstatic highs and desperate lows, all neatly wrapped up in a single album full of atmospheric rock.
Up until very recently DeeExpus had been the long time solo project of songwriter, producer and multi instrumentalist Andy Ditchfield. A chance reunion with singer and old friend Tony Wright in March 2007 expanded the project into two people for the first time and writing and recording of the album “Half Way Home” began. The DeeExpus sound can only be described as being as eclectic as their influences, drawn from years of listening to the likes of Joe Jackson, Iron Maiden, It Bites, Crash Test Dummies, Rush, Nik Kershaw and Marillion, more recently Porcupine Tree and Spock’s Beard. Having recently released “Half Way Home”, Tony and Andy are working hard with the rest of the band to take DeeExpus on the road… The current band line up is: Tony Wright – Lead Vocals, Andy Ditchfield – Guitar, Keyboards & Vocals, Ian Raine – Bass Guitar & Vocals, Steve Wright – Guitar & Vocals, Kev Jager – Drums & Vocals.
Ben Folds Back With NOVEL & Talib Kweli
Unique multi-talent releases digital EP "I Am…(Future Black President)" on Rowdy/Capitol, features 5 songs from forthcoming debut The Audiobiography due out on March 24th, 2009. Urban music’s most anticipated and intriguing new artist, Novel introduces his unique rapped/sung poetics to the world.
The titular buzz single featuring Ben Folds, Talib Kweli, and Spree Wilson is rife with Novel’s heartfelt lyrics: “I’m the sun, I’m light/I’m much more than the bling or the shine off your ice/ I’m as free as a spirit, I’m as fly as a bird/ I’m whatever I wanna be as long as I am heard”. The track samples Ben Folds "The Luckiest" but also features him singing and playing piano on the recording.
While Novel may be new to listeners, his words and work aren’t. He’s long been penning and producing for other artists, including Alicia Keys, Kelis, India.Arie,Joss Stone. The I Am… EP, however, is the world’s first taste of his own voice. Amazingly, Novel’s efforts don’t stop with words on a page: Novel writes, produces, arranges. The aforementioned Audiobiography is entirely his, save a few collaborations with Dallas Austin, producer No I.D., and Krucial Keys. And speaking of the Keys team, Novel is fresh off a domestic tour with Alicia Keys. He’s now performing at college campuses nationwide, in preparation for his New York showcase come January of 2009.

DINOSAUR BONES Announce One Year Anniversary Party in Toronto January 17, 2009
After a busy and successful year, which included sharing stages with the likes of Born Ruffians and Hey Rosetta!, Toronto’s Dinosaur Bones will kick 2009 off with their one year anniversary show at the legendary Horseshoe Tavern on Saturday, January 17th, 2009. To celebrate their first birthday, good friends The Junction, Black Hat Brigade, and the Paint Movement will assume opening positions on this impressive bill.
This year the band released their too-short but musically stunning four song demo in May. Filled with danceable guitar-whaling rock pop (imagine if the Strokes were listening to too much Broken Social Scene) local show-goers couldn’t help but take notice. The band spent the rest of the year bringing their energetic live performances to packed bars in and around Toronto. Local blogger Pete Nema was quick to scribe, "the independent music scene in Toronto is changing, and bands like Dinosaur Bones are the ones that are convincing me there is something happening here," and in a live review EYE weekly described their unique brand of rock as "countrified meandering rock songs [that] sport intricate, low key rhythms and an air of melancholy….standout Bones tracks include the keyboard-propelled, haunting ‘N.Y.E.,’ and the jittery ‘Royalty’."
2009 is bound to be better yet! With the release of their debut full length slated for the end of the summer, plans for touring, and of course the one year anniversary party on January 17th, -the band is sure to start the year off on the right foot. As things are quickly moving up a steep slope for Dinosaur Bones, it’s weird to think just a year ago they were starting out. But, don’t be too quick to put your guard up, if you’ve seen them play or you’ve heard their songs, you’d know they’ve got a lot more than just luck on their side. Don’t believe the hype, listen for yourself!

“…a beautiful album, crafted rather than merely recorded.” – Kerrang!
M.O.A.B continues the work Tribe after tribe began in South Africa more than two decades ago, fusing unique world rock elements with ringleader Robbi Robb’s incisive, intelligent lyrical dreamscapes, exposing the evil forces of Apartheid and its ideological brethren…forces that remain with us today, perhaps more so than ever before. The message in the music is not, however, a political one, but rather a simple signpost pointing to the common ground of the human heart which we all share.
M.O.A.B., is available for purchase on both iTunes and Amazon.com.
NEW TOMMY BOLIN BOOK RELEASED
To many, Tommy Bolin was the legitimate heir to Jimi Hendrix’s rock guitar throne. Stints with the James Gang and Deep Purple – as well as solo albums and a groundbreaking release with jazz-rocker Billy Cobham – certainly proved that the adulation was rightly deserved. And with a techno-color fashion sense, he certainly stood out from the pack. Only one problem, Tommy had a death-defying drug addiction, which ultimately would lead to a premature and tragic end – before he was able to truly take his standing among the elite musicians of the world. ‘Touched by Magic: The Tommy Bolin Story’ is the first book to focus entirely on the life story of Tommy Bolin – compiled from nearly 50 exclusive interviews (including family, friends, and band members that played alongside Tommy throughout the years), and featuring many never-before-seen photos.
‘Touched by Magic’ is available through www.lulu.com for $19.98 (U.S.), and there is a sample chapter to read at the site (the chapter is titled "Moxy/’Teaser’/Deep Purple). The book was written by journalist Greg Prato, whose work has appeared in a variety of sites and magazines, including All Music Guide, Billboard.com, Rolling Stone.com, Record Collector Magazine, and Classic Rock Magazine, among others. A long-time fan of Tommy’s music, Greg conducted interviews with such renowned rock names as David Coverdale, Glenn Hughes, Eddie Kramer, Carmine Appice, Jan Hammer, Martin Barre, Jimmy Haslip, Mark Stein, Prairie Prince, Dale Peters, Jim Fox, Alphonse Mouzon, Kenny Passarelli, Henry Paul, Narada Michael Walden, Reggie McBride, and Otis Taylor, as well as Tommy’s brother, Johnnie Bolin (among countless others), for the book.
While it will obviously appeal to fans of Tommy Bolin, this 252 page paperback book (whose title comes from a phrase that keyboardist Jan Hammer once said to describe Tommy’s guitar playing) will also be of interest to fans of classic rock in general, as large portions of the book focus on Deep Purple, the James Gang, and Billy Cobham, while you’ll find additional stories that involve Led Zeppelin, Jeff Beck, Jethro Tull, the Mahavishnu Orchestra, the Tubes, Moxy, the Outlaws, and Jimi Hendrix’s Electric Lady Studios, among others. You’ll also get the inside scoop on such classic Tommy-related releases as Billy Cobham’s ‘Spectrum,’ the James Gang’s ‘Bang’ and ‘Miami,’ and Deep Purple’s ‘Come Taste the Band,’ plus Tommy’s two cult classic solo albums, ‘Teaser’ and ‘Private Eyes.’ Additionally, new information is gathered around the events that led to Tommy’s tragic passing in 1976, after a show in Miami with Jeff Beck.
Tommy’s following continues to grow each year, as his album ‘Private Eyes’ was recently certified gold in the U.S. (500,000 units sold), Dean Guitars recently unveiled a Tommy Bolin ‘Teaser’ tribute guitar, while Hartman Electronics recently premiered a new Tommy Bolin fuzz pedal. And with the release of ‘Touched by Magic,’ the buzz is only going to grow louder about the great Tommy Bolin. "After reading ‘Touched by Magic,’ it seemed to me every interview ‘takes you there’ for the moment…I give 105 stars to Greg!" -Johnnie Bolin, Tommy’s brother
Diverse Bands Join Rock Gone Wild Including Candlebox, Saxon and the Gypsy Pistoleros
Four days. More than fifty bands. Two stages. Multiple genres of rock. It’s time to get wild. Workaholics Candlebox will rock the main stage at Rock Gone Wild. British Metallers Saxon and the Gypsy Pistoleros have agreed to cross the pond just to party with you at the festival. Rock Gone Wild is slated for August 20-23, 2009 in Algona, Iowa. Tickets are available now by visiting www.rockgonewild.com.
Forming in the early 1990s, Candlebox immediately broke from their Seattle brethren. While many bands from the region followed the grunge path, Candlebox made their own way. Blending modern sound with classic guitar rock, Candlebox created their own unique sound – and gathered an army of fans along the way. The band’s self-titled debut became a near instant success, spawning several hit singles including "Far Behind" and "You." Candlebox are currently supporting their newest hit album Into the Sun, released earlier this year. Candlebox is Kevin Martin (vocals, guitar), Peter Klett (guitar), Scott Mercado (drums), Adam Kury (bass) and Sean Hennesy (rhythm guitar).
Leading the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, Saxon formed at the end of the 1970s and created a signature sound that new bands still attempt to imitate today. Saxon released their self-titled debut in 1979, but it wasn’t until 1980 and Wheels of Steel that the band really began to take hold. Since the early years, Saxon has weathered several lineup changes and continued to tour heavily and record new music. Lead singer Biff Byford has remained a constant force in the band, bringing a balls out in-your-face Metal show to each and every paying customer. Be warned! Stand close to the stage when Saxon plays and you will be rocked. Saxon is Biff Byford (vocals), Doug Scarratt (guitar), Paul Quinn (guitar), Nibbs Carter (bass) and Nigel Glockler (drums).
The Gypsy Pistoleros are the world’s greatest flamenco glam band! If you’ve never seen the Gypsy Pistoleros perform live…get ready: you’ll never be the same again. The band is a mix of Brit charm, Spanish flavor and glam swagger. Lee Pistolero (vocals), Iggie Pistolero (guitar), Nasty Pistolero (bass) and Harri Pistolero (drums) are the Gypsy Pistoleros.
Bands already announced for Rock Gone Wild include Puddle of Mudd, Saliva, Skid Row, Tantric, Kix, Great White, Hardcore Superstar, Saigon Kick, Tigertailz, Lizzy Borden, Dangerous Toys, Helix, Rhino Bucket and Junkyard with many more to come!
Rock Gone Wild will take place at the Freedom Park festival grounds, located at 2507- 160th Avenue in Algona, Iowa.
Flogging Molly ‘Green 17 Tour’ Includes Toronto, Montreal Dates In Feb.2009
St. Patrick’s Day is traditionally celebrated March 17th each year, but for Flogging Molly the festivities start February 15th when the band embarks on their annual Green 17 Tour. Now in its fifth year, The Green 17 Tour was created to spread the revelry of St. Patrick’s Day to cities across North America. Clearly it’s a touring recipe that’s been well received, as it’s now a celebration that’s anticipated by fans from coast to coast.
2008 has been a whirlwind year for Flogging Molly, a band whose rabid fan base was formed almost solely as a result of the incessant touring and DIY aesthetic. Their 2008 release Float hit via SideOneDummy Records on March 4, 2008 and Stateside it captured the band a No. 4 slot on the Billboard Top 200, a No.1 spot on the Billboard Independent Albums Chart and No. 2 on Billboard’s Alternative Album Chart.
Following on the heels of the release, Flogging Molly embarked on a sold-out spring North American Tour, followed by tours in Japan, Australia and Europe (where they’ve toured four times in 2008). The band has also made high profile appearances at the Coachella and Lollapalooza Festivals, as well as a performance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
The 2009 Green 17 Tour will be supported by the release of a third radio single, "Lightning Storm". The tour will be making 22 stops nationwide from February through March, including two festivals, Langerado in Miami and the Shamrock Festival in Washington D.C. The tour also includes two Canadian dates – Feb.16 @ Metropolis in Montreal and Feb.17 @ Toronto’s Sound Academy.
Tickets for the 2009 Green 17 Tour go on sale on Saturday, December 13th through all standard ticket outlets. For more detailed ticket info and updates, visit www.floggingmolly.com.

LES CLAYPOOL Makes History on New Year’s Eve
Les Claypool, infamous bassist and mastermind of the legendary band Primus will add yet another feather of creative genius to his hat. As a showman of colossal proportion, Claypool has created a visual and aural extravaganza in 3-D of the unexpected for his debut at the War Memorial Opera House in San Francisco. This is the first ever rock show to take place at the War Memorial Opera House home to housing the opera and ballet
The Opera House is one of the most beautiful venues in Northern California, and this is the first ever rock concert there. The box seats, usually reserved for ballet or opera season ticket holders, offer a unique viewing experience for groups of 8, including a private vestibule, waitress service and souvenir poster.
Les Claypool rose to fame in the early 90’s as leader of the multi platinum alt rock band Primus. Taking his funk derived mastery of the electric bass and witty story songs, he dove into the jamband scene in 2000. Primus headlined their annual New Year’s Eve Freak Out in the Bay Area from 1992-99, and Claypool has continued the tradition in the Bay Area ever since. His midnight climaxes are legendary and always over the top. Thematically manifesting everything from a band of cave man circa Quest For Fire to a parade of costumed freaks, Claypool takes great pride in his New Years Eve performances and extras. This year’s show will present unparalleled 3D visuals, with 3D glasses included in the ticket as well as other interesting antics that only Claypool himself could derive.
Zappa Plays Zappa has received rave reviews for the last few years, as Dweezil has carried on his father’s legacy. The music of Frank Zappa couldn’t be in better hands than the high level of musicianship collected in this group which includes some alumni from the original band (Ray White, also of KVHW).
This show marks the first ever appearance of a Zappa on the same bill with Claypool. He and Primus have often been compared to Frank, and Primus guitarist Larry LaLonde was recruited by Rykodisc several years ago to compile a Zappa Picks compilation of his favorites from Frank’s catalogue.

Glen Campbell’s Top Tracks Remastered for ‘Greatest Hits’
16 of Glen Campbell’s most popular hits have been remastered by Capitol/EMI for Glen Campbell:
Greatest Hits, a new CD and digital collection to be released February 10. Campbell’s triple Grammy-winning 1967 single, “Gentle On My Mind,”
is included, as well as his first Top 10 hit, “By the Time I Get to Phoenix,” the title track from his 1968 Grammy winner for Album of the Year, and the #1 smash singles “Rhinestone Cowboy,” “Wichita Lineman” and “Galveston.” Two tracks from Campbell’s critically-acclaimed 2008 album, Meet Glen Campbell, are also included.
In 1969, Glen Campbell had it all – sunny good looks, dazzling guitar chops, a breathtaking tenor voice, and his own network television show.
“The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour” was weekly destination viewing for millions on Sunday nights because of the abundant talents of its star. A string of gigantic hit records had brought Campbell to this career pinnacle.
The “Goodtime Hour” theme song was John Hartford’s lilting “Gentle On My Mind,” which Campbell had brought to fame in 1967, winning Grammy Awards for the Song, Single and Male Vocal Performance of the Year. The follow-up single, Jimmy Webb’s stunningly melodic “By the Time I Get to Phoenix,” became Campbell’s first Top 10 hit and led to the singer and guitarist’s close association with that songwriter, as well as 1968’s Grammy Award for Album of the Year.
Campbell’s version of Webb’s haunting “Wichita Lineman” was hot on the charts the week the star’s TV show debuted in January 1969, and his thrilling performance of Webb’s “Galveston” followed it to #1 on the charts just a few weeks later. Other golden tunes that led to Glen Campbell’s national stature included 1968’s “Dreams of the Everyday Housewife,” “I Wanna Live” and “Hey Little One.” This cluster of 1960s classics was only the beginning. By the time his TV series wound down in the summer of 1972, Campbell had struck gold with “Try a Little Kindness,” “Honey Come Back” and “True Grit,” the title tune of his cinematic debut co-starring the iconic John Wayne.
In addition to his gleaming vocals, most of those records were characterized by Campbell’s prominent guitar lines and lush, sweeping string arrangements by producer Al De Lory. This partnership continued with 1970’s “It’s Only Make Believe,” Campbell’s hit revival of Conway Twitty’s classic ballad.
A respected and sought-after session guitarist, Campbell’s playing is heard on many of America’s greatest popular songs of the era, including Frank Sinatra’s “Strangers In The Night,” The Righteous Brothers’ “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’,” Elvis Presley’s “Viva Las Vegas,” five tracks on The Beach Boys’ seminal 1966 album, Pet Sounds (Campbell also toured with The Beach Boys in 1965). Campbell also performed on recordings by Ricky Nelson, Nat King Cole, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Bobby Darin, Dean Martin, Nancy Sinatra, The Monkees, Wayne Newton, and on Phil Spector-produced hits, including Darlene Love & the Crystals’ "He’s A Rebel" and The Ronettes’ "Be My Baby," among others.
In the mid 1970s, Campbell teamed with producers Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter, who at the time were mostly known for working with rhythm-and-blues artists such as The Four Tops and Tavares. This new partnership resulted in yet another career-defining single, 1975’s soaring “Rhinestone Cowboy.” The team also created the succeeding hit, “Country Boy (You Got Your Feet in L.A.),” which Lambert and Potter co-wrote for Campbell.
In 1977, Campbell added the skill of record producing to his resume.
Collaborating with co-producer Gary Klein, he recorded the funky “Southern Nights,” written by New Orleans music legend Allen Toussaint.
This became yet another Campbell career milestone.
In 2008, Campbell returned to Capitol Records and released his first new studio album in 13 years, Meet Glen Campbell. Produced by Julian Raymond, the critically-acclaimed album includes songs from the repertoires of Green Day, Foo Fighters, Tom Petty, The Replacements and other seemingly unlikely artists, which pleasantly surprised fans and journalists around the world. “Glen Campbell is still on the line with a rocking new CD,” raved USA Today. “Campbell, at 72, has entered extraordinary new territory,” said Daily Variety, while Relix magazine called Meet Glen Campbell “a contender for comeback album of the year.”
In a legendary music career that spans more than five decades, Glen Campbell has achieved chart-topping, platinum-selling pop and country success singing everyday tales of life, love, work and heartache. In addition to his five Grammy Awards, Campbell has been honored with trophies for Male Vocalist Of The Year from both the Country Music Association (CMA) and the Academy Of Country Music (ACM). Inducted into the CMA’s Hall Of Fame, he has also been awarded its top Entertainer Of The Year honors, and the ACM has honored him with its prestigious Pioneer Award.
Blender magazine has inducted “Wichita Lineman” to its list of “Greatest Songs Ever,” and the UK’s New Musical Express ranked “Lineman” at #46 in its list of “The 100 Greatest Singles, Ever.” Glen Campbell has released more than 75 albums, which have sold in excess of 40 million copies around the world. Of his 76 charting releases, 27 have reached Billboard’s Top 10.

Secondhand Serenade’s new video for the song “Your Call” will see a world premiere on the first episode of the second season of MTV’s program FNMTV, hosted by Pete Wentz, TONIGHT at 8PM ET/PT. The video will also be added into heavy rotation at MTV, MTV2, MTV Hits (Elite 8) and mtvU.
“I feel the video for “Your Call” is the most special one of my career, I couldn’t be more thrilled to have it shown to the world first on FNMTV,” says singer/songwriter John Vesely, aka Secondhand Serenade.
“Your Call,” the follow up single to Secondhand Serenade’s Top 10, Platinum selling smash “Fall For You,” appears on Secondhand Serenade’s sophomore album, A Twist In My Story (Glassnote, 2008), which debuted at #44 on the Billboard Top 200. Since releasing the album, “Your Call” has become the second most downloaded track off the album, behind “Fall For You.”
“When it came time to choose a second single there was no doubt in my mind that it would be “Your Call.” It has been a fan favorite since ‘Awake’ and the current version of the song is the way I always imagined it to sound. I’m really happy with the way it turned out and I just hope everyone will love it,” claims Vesely.
Vesely hit the studio with producer Butch Walker (The All-American Rejects, Pink), who also produced “Fall For You,” to re-record “Your Call.” The song was mixed by Joe Zook (Katy Perry, One Republic), and features fresh vocals, guitars, drums, and includes a gospel choir and a string orchestra recorded at the world-famous Abbey Road studios in London.
The new version of “Your Call,” as well as bonus tracks including live and acoustic tracks and a cover of Coldplay’s "Fix You", Secondhand Serenade music videos and a behind-the-scenes documentary will appear on the deluxe edition of A Twist In My Story, out on February 3, 2009 via Glassnote Records/ILG.

Brian Wilson ‘That Lucky Old Sun’ DVD To Be Released January 27
Capitol/EMI will release a new Brian Wilson DVD entitled That Lucky Old Sun on January 27, 2009. A companion to Wilson’s critically-acclaimed That Lucky Old Sun album, released September 2 on CD, vinyl and digitally, the DVD features more than two and a half hours of content, including a full-length live performance of the album, a new feature-length documentary and additional behind-the-scenes footage from the album’s recording sessions, and some of Wilson’s recently filmed promotional performances and interviews.
The new That Lucky Old Sun DVD features a full-length performance of Wilson’s latest album, filmed live at Capitol Studios on May 19, 2008 in
5.1 Surround and 2.0 Stereo audio, as well as a new feature-length film, Going Home, directed and edited by George Dougherty, which documents the making of the album and Wilson’s return to his original record label, Capitol Records.
The DVD’s bonus features include track-by-track audio commentary by Wilson and his That Lucky Old Sun songwriting partner and band member, Scott Bennett, for the live Capitol Studios performance, behind-the-scenes footage from the album’s recording sessions, and recent promotional interviews and performances by Wilson for Yahoo!
Music, MySpace and “Black Cab Sessions.”
The GRAMMY Museum, opening December 6 in Los Angeles, will debut its “An Evening With” signature public program with Brian Wilson on January 15.
Wilson will be interviewed onstage by the Museum’s Executive Director, Robert Santelli, before performing a few songs for an intimate audience of 200 people. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.grammymuseum.org .
That Lucky Old Sun has received rave reviews from top music magazines including Rolling Stone, Spin, MOJO, and Uncut, with Rolling Stone praising the album as “Brian’s strongest new work in years.” Wilson and his band just completed a November tour of the new album to 11 major U.S. cities that earned accolades from fans and the media alike.
The dawning of a new California morning for Brian Wilson, That Lucky Old Sun continues the awe-inspiring concept album journey that he first began four decades ago. Wilson’s songwriting, arranging and producing talents came together in harmonious glory for The Beach Boys’ 1966 classic, Pet Sounds, and have continued to evolve during his solo career, highlighted by his 2004 critically acclaimed Brian Wilson Presents SMiLE. Lyrically and in Wilson’s incomparably lush, evocative arrangements, That Lucky Old Sun adds a new chapter to Wilson’s conceptual presentations. Pitchfork Media’s album review rates Wilson’s That Lucky Old Sun as “his finest non-Smile album since the golden age of the Beach Boys,” and adds, “That Lucky Old Sun neatly closes the circle he began drawing in 1961 with the single ‘Surfin’,’ returning him to an idealized Southern California…"

Following numerous nominations, Wilson won a well-deserved Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance (2004) for “Mrs. O’Leary’s Cow”
and he was inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2006. Last December, he was feted as a leading cultural icon by The Kennedy Center Honors alongside Diana Ross, Martin Scorsese, Steve Martin and Leon Fleisher.

Funeral Party "Bootleg EP" Out Now * Debut Album Set For April 21st
Funeral Party is a five-piece electro-rock band from Whittier, CA carving their way into the Los Angeles music scene. Described by the LA Times as "a quintet of electro-charged youngsters from East L.A.. At moments recalling the dance-punk revivalism of early Moving Units and The Rapture and at others bouncing along to a skittish cowbell like LCD Soundsystem." The band’s universal appeal to dance, funk, disco and punk fans alike has contributed to their rising popularity and led to appearances on Indie 103.1, Southern California’s largest commercial indie music station, as well as support from college radio.
Funeral Party’s “Bootleg EP” is out today at all digital retailers including iTunes, Rhapsody and Amazon. A debut full length album, which is being recorded in December and January at The Mars Volta’s studio in Los Angeles, is expected to be released on April 21, 2009. Lars Stalfors, the engineer on the most recent Mars Volta album, will be producing/engineering the full length. Funeral Party recently finished up their first full US tour as direct support for the French hipster icon Yelle (Astralwerks), in October/November 2008.
Upcoming Tour Dates:
12/6 – Los Angeles, CA: FMLY Presents: Enjoy Human (2323 Porter St) w/ Blackblack, Japanther
12/7 – Los Angels, CA: Spaceland w/ Friendly Fires
1/15 – San Francisco, CA: Popscene @ 330 Ritch
Track-by-track description of the "Bootleg EP" :
“Carwars,” is a song about forbidden love, specifically, the love that occurs in the back seat of your car with your best friend’s girlfriend while he’s passed out drunk in the front seat, no less!
Chad Elliot claims that “Chalice” is about the most Death-Metal title Funeral Party could think of. When Funeral Party first started playing shows, they were sharing bills with hardcore bands. “The song is about self-loathing… I guess we framed it for kids that gravitated to, like, wizards and warlocks and shit. It is sort of an inside joke, like drinking from the cup of Satan. In the context of the song, I guess we are like the ‘Spawns of Destruction’ or something. We recorded it using Omar’s gear at Volta’s studio. Lars Stalfors recorded it. We recorded it on Volta’s off days. At the time, we didn’t even have our own gear!”
“NEW YORK CITY MOVES TO THE SOUND OF L.A.”
“NYC” started as a challenge to NYC bands: “Come on mother fucker, bring it!” The song, however, has evolved. Like all texts, its significance is transient.
“That song used to be like a call to arms for L.A. bands, but now it’s more like I’m just trying to tell everyone, WAKE UP," said lead vocalist Chad Elliot. "So much is going on, the choice is ours, but it is easier for people to sit back and have someone else tell them what to do. It’s so annoying because it seems like people don’t want to think for themselves anymore. That song is political. It used to be about scene politics, but it’s more global now,” said Elliot.
Sean Kelly Christmas Guitar CD Release Party!
“This is an elegant, intimate album of guitar and synthesizer arrangements of traditional carols. Sean Kelly plays gracefully and without needless adornment, helped on some tracks by a second guitarist — his co-producer James Robertson. It’s the kind of music to play in quiet meditation after the kids are in bed on Christmas eve.” – Windsor Star
“CHRISTMAS GUITAR is the new traditional holiday favourite.” – Let’s Get Rocked

Christmas Guitar CD Release Party
Friday December 5, 2008, 8:00pm – 10:00pm
Revival, 783 College St. Toronto, ON
Also catch Sean on Canoe Live on Sun TV at 5:30pm
Christmas Guitar is the new classical-crossover CD featuring the artistry of Sean Kelly, performer known for his work with the rock band Crash Kelly. No stranger to the world stage, Sean has supported artists such as Alice Cooper, Gilby Clarke, Joan Jett, The Black Crowes and Carole Pope. With this release, Sean brings a pop sensibility to classic carols, while still maintaining the elegance and warmth associated with the most wonderful time of the year.
With a spirit of warmth and exuberance, the album is an eclectic yet traditional set of 15 fresh arrangements of Holiday Classics. Christmas Guitar via Opening Day Entertainment and Universal Music blends Kelly’s nylon string guitar work with an intriguing mix of electric guitars and a coterie of harps, strings, and other Sounds of the Season. Kelly took advantage of the fact that his co-producer James Robertson is an amazing Jazz Guitarist as the two musicians’ trade off solos on “We Three Kings” and “Angel Gabriel.”
Kelly’s 2007 release of his debut The #1 Classical Guitar Album garnered heavy radio play, impressive sales, and earned a lengthy stay on sales charts.
In 2005, Kelly impressed guitar star judges Joe Satriani (Deep Purple, Mick Jagger) and Steve Lukather (Toto, Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney) as a Top 10 finalist of Guitar Player Magazine’s Guitar Hero competition at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Sean Kelly is endorsed by Yamaha Guitars and their website www.classicrocks.ca features Kelly as the main endorsee of handcrafted classical guitars. Kelly will be performing a series of guitar clinics in music stores across Canada in November.
