Band leader Mat Sinner has made some line-up changes since the last time we heard from the band. Sinner has been in the business for 25 years now and they are one of the biggest metal acts in Germany. Band leader Sinner is a very busy man. He is not only the front man of his own band; he is also producer, songwriter and active as the bandleader for Primal Fear. He has recruited the Primal Fear colleague Henny Wolter to take care of the guitar duties in Sinner since the last album with the band.
The band continues delivering well played melodic metal. A few changes have been made since the release of the last album. I think that the music on CRASH AND BURN feels more melodic has more of the twin guitar duels going on. The music has the flair of 70’s and 80’s and some of the guitar riffs sounds a lot like what Thin Lizzy had going on. The musical similarities with Primal Fear have been toned down and the music is not as aggressive and fast as before.
Amongst the 11brilliant tracks has Sinner included a cover of the John Hiatt song “Little Head”. The album clocks in on 40 minutes which feels just perfect. I have nothing bad to say about the material and almost all of the songs are killer tracks. Mat Sinner has really put in some serious effort into the material and it’s like nothing out on the market at the moment. Sinner has with CRASH AND BURN made the ultimate melodic hardrock/metal album.
My personal favorite tracks are the heavy and hard-hitting melodic metal/hardrock items like “Crash And Burn”, “Break The Silence”, “The Dog” and “Fist To Face”. But also the Thin Lizzy reminding “Heart Of Darkness” and “Connection” are strong. And that also goes for the heavy rock tune “Revolution”. The cover “Little Head” feels also solid and also in this song are influences of Thin Lizzy hidden.
Mat Sinner and Henny Wolter have done the production and the album was engineered by Dennis Ward while the mixing and mastering was done by another famous German, Achim Kohler. Needless to say the production is amazing. I was amazed by the massive production that really fit the music and material excellent. If you are fast you can buy the limited edition of the album that includes two bonus tracks and a video clip to the song “Revolution”. Sinner has out done themselves and it’s a sheer pleasure to lean back and enjoy CRASH AND BURN. This is what Sinner should sound like. This is a milestone in the band’s career and Mat Sinner is a genius.
