History will be made on Tuesday September 25, when legendary singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Paul Rodgers (Queen+Paul Rodgers, Bad Company) teams up with Canadian guitar virtuoso Kim Mitchell for a very special live-to-air performance at Q107’s street-level studios (279 Yonge St., Hard Rock Café).

Rodgers is in Toronto promoting his #1 charting debut solo DVD ‘Live In Glasgow’, which has been enjoying top positioning on Canada’s music DVD SoundScan charts since its release earlier this year.

The Q107 performance begins at 4pm EST; Rodgers and Mitchell will perform songs from the ‘Live In Glasgow’ DVD.  As an added bonus, select Paul Rodgers fans will receive limited edition CDs, T-shirts and photographs.

‘Live In Glasgow’, recorded in October of 2006 on the last date of his Sold Out UK tour (which included a date at London’s prestigious Royal Albert Hall), is stunning proof that Rodgers’ voice and performance is as strong as ever.  This 135-minute DVD, shot with 13 cameras, includes brand new songs “Warboys (A Prayer for Peace)” and “Far Distant Shore,” as well as songs he has not performed in 35 years, and many of his hits, including “All Right Now,” “Feel Like Making Love” and “Can’t Get Enough.” Soulful, bluesy, swaggering, he belts out his songs, and also plays piano and guitar. The band: guitarist Howard Leese (Heart), bassist Lynn Sorenson, drummer Ryan Hoyle (Collective Soul) and introducing 17-year old guitar prodigy Kurtis Dengler.

Rodgers’ growing resume reads like a rock history lesson. This platinum-selling singer, songwriter, and self-taught multi-instrumentalist has written, recorded, produced, and released 28 albums.  He found and led three bands to International Success: Free (1968-1973), Bad Company (1974-1982), and The Firm with Jimmy Page (1984-1986), and now enjoys a Grammy nominated solo career.  In 2005-06 he joined forces with Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor for the successful Queen + Paul Rodgers World Tour, performing songs from both of their catalogues, plus Rodgers’ new song, “Take Love.”

He continues to tour and record internationally as a solo artist and as Queen + Paul Rodgers.  For more information, please visit

‘Live In Glasgow’ was also released on CD April 24 via Eagle Rock Entertainment.

Marc Ford, the former Crowes ax-slinger, is heading out on tour in support of his new solo album Weary and Wired on [Blues Bureau Records].
Marc Ford, who has sold millions of albums worldwide and played in front of more than 50 million people across the globe, will impact the airwaves with his first solo album Weary and Wired March 13th [Blues Bureau Records]. Weary and Wired features Ford on guitars & vocals, Mark “Muddy”Dutton on bass and Doni Gray on drums.
Former Black Crowe’s blues-guitar guru has delivered an extraordinary album full of Classic Rock-soaked riffs, bluesy based crunch with Southern Rock twang.  “My influences go way beyond as I do not play nor do I listen to rock,” explains Ford. “What influences my playing is folk, blues, jazz, gospel, country, reggae and the list goes on…” Weary and Wired is a significant recording showing Ford’s strength as a singer/songwriter, fueled by large doses of his phenomenal guitar work that brings to mind such masters as Clapton, Hendrix and Beck.
Come out and see what all the talk is about!

The Donnas set to release new CD and to Tour

About five years ago, four ladies from Palo Alto, California knocked on the door of Rock ‘n’ Roll – which, to be fair, hides little more than a men’s room littered with cigarette butts, broken bottles of Jack, and forty years worth of guitar-slaying icons. But when the door swung wide, The Donnas were welcomed with open arms, thanks mostly to their snarling breakthrough, Spend The Night, which didn’t bother to gussy up their grrl-power sound, and instead thumbed its nose at the boy’s club institution. We’re here, We’re chicks, Get Used to it, it screamed!

A half decade later, they’ve launched their own label, Purple Feather, and on tomorrow’s anthemic 14-song shoot-out Bitchin’, the girls are still kicking around the stalls and shooting whiskey with the best of them – the Crue, Def Leppard, Aerosmith. Go check them out for yourselves at their newly-launched website, or have a listen to the rambunctious kiss-off “Don’t Wait Up For Me” below.

>MP3: Don’t Wait Up For Me

“In case the cover — a leather-pants-clad ass that could have adorned a Joan Jett LP way back when — didn’t tip you off, the Donnas still jones for sweaty, Seventies-style hard rock on Bitchin’, their seventh album.” – Rolling Stone

Last week, the band kicked off a massive North American tour, which sees them making stops in nearly every watering hole and/or rock club in the lower 48 — ok, we’re exaggerating. But this thing is lengthy, continuing tomorrow night in Portland and winding its way through the midwest, the east coast, and the desert for the next thirty days.

Zombie just released HALLOWEEN, premiering number one at the box office breaking all Labor Day Weekend records while grossing an estimated 31 million dollars. As Halloween is well on its way towards cult status, Zombie once again takes his horror-show back on the road in support of the long awaited Zombie-Live album.

Recorded in 2006 during the tour supporting the Educated Horses album, which hit #5 on the Pop chart, Zombie-Live finds Zombie leading a supercharged band featuring guitarist John 5, bassist Piggy D, drummer Tommy Clufetos and was produced by long-time co-writer and producer Scott Humphrey.

This is a no-holds barred show so hold on for the ride. The tour is a two month alliance starting in Seattle, WA at the Key Arena and will end December 22nd in New York, NY at Madison Square Garden.

Selling over fifteen million albums worldwide, Zombie is one of Geffen Records top selling and longest running artist. Brian Setzer to release new CD

Brian Setzer has made a career of bucking trends, going against the grain, ignoring popular culture, discarding rational thought, and, all the while, blowing people away. In a pop music era dominated by twenty-something contest winners and angst-ridden suburban kids, his latest project couldn’t be any further removed from the mainstream. Recording centuries-old music with his 18-piece Rockin’ Big Band, Setzer has achieved what is surely his finest musical hour with his upcoming Surfdog Records release, “Wolfgang’s Big Night Out.”

Join us for a special preview of the entire album:

A Top 10 Billboard chart hit upon its 1974 release, Bridge Of Sighs remains powerhouse guitarist Robin Trower’s most recognized and accomplished album. With Trower’s participation, Bridge Of Sighs has been remastered and expanded for CD and digital release on October 2 by Capitol/EMI. The new package’s eight bonus tracks are culled from two BBC performances recorded in 1974 and 1975 for the “John Peel Sessions.”

Robin Trower was the guitarist for Procol Harum from 1967 until 1971, when he left the group to pursue a solo career.  1974’s Bridges Of Sighs was Trower’s second solo album, showcasing his emotional, bluesy guitar style and his trio, which included singer and bassist James Dewar and drummer Bill Lordan. Dewar and Lordan’s playing complemented Trower’s evocative, intricate guitar in a line-up that is often compared to Jimi Hendrix’s late ‘60s Experience trio. While Trower’s style is inspired in part by Hendrix’s distinct and revolutionary approach, the most direct comparison to be made is not in technical style, but rather in the bared emotion, power and passion of both guitarists’ playing, as well as in their shared affinity for the Fender Stratocaster.  “Robin Trower was one of the first of the 1970s guitar heroes,” wrote Harry Weinger in his liner notes essay for The Essential Robin Trower.  “Bending strings to make it cry, whisper, and roar like mad.”

Bridge Of Sighs peaked at #7 on Billboard’s album chart, launching Trower to new heights of arena rock stardom. He released several more successful albums and toured to many of the world’s largest venues throughout the 1970s. The ‘80s brought collaborations with Bryan Ferry and ex-Cream bassist and vocalist Jack Bruce, and in the ‘90s, Procol Harum reunited to release a new album.  Now in his fourth decade of performing and recording, Trower has continued to work with Bryan Ferry, while also releasing his own albums and touring. Trower’s most recent studio album, Another Days Blues, was released in 2005.

Foreigner To Perform With Led Zeppelin At Tribute To Ahmet Ertegun

On Monday, November 26, 2007, Foreigner will share the same stage at London’s O2 Arena with Atlantic Records label mates Led Zeppelin for a long-anticipated tribute concert honoring the late Ahmet Ertegun, the visionary founder of Atlantic Records.
“Ahmet’s combination of charm, humour, irreverence and above all his great passion for music, made getting to know him one of the brightest highlights of my life,” says Foreigner founder Mick Jones, whose band created sixteen top thirty hits for the label. “I feel truly honoured to be participating in this unique and exciting event.” (see full quote attached)
Foreigner and Ahmet’s Atlantic experienced nothing short of a tremendous collaboration. The band is second only to the legendary Led Zeppelin in worldwide sales of all artists currently distributed by Atlantic. Foreigner “4” spent more weeks on the Billboard chart at number one than any album by AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, U2, The Rolling Stones, Genesis, Phil Collins, Eric Clapton and every other artist in Atlantic Records 60 year history. The strength of the Foreigner catalogue continues, and no Atlantic classic rock era artist comes close to Led Zeppelin and Foreigner to this day. In fact, the band’s ‘Very Best and Beyond” catalogue CD just hit #16 on Billboard charts and has been certified double platinum.
As expected and hoped for, Jason Bonham — son of the late Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham and  Foreigner’s drummer — will be joining Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones for the historic benefit concert.
“I must thank Mick for giving me the time off from Foreigner to fulfil a dream that was once thought to be my destiny,” says Jason. “Led Zeppelin are to play at the O2 arena in London on the 26th of November for their dear friend Ahmet Ertegun to raise money for his educational foundation. Ahmet was a huge part of Led Zeppelin’s and my father’s success. He was a very special man, and it is a truly great privilege for me to join Robert, Jimmy, and John Paul for this concert. I am sure Ahmet and my father will be watching. I hope to do them proud.” (see full quote attached)
Proceeds from the concert spectacle — which will include performances by Pete Townshend, Bill Wyman and the Rhythm Kings and Paolo Nutini — will go to the Ahmet Ertegun Education Fund which provides students with annual scholarships to universities in the UK, USA and Turkey.
In addition, a music scholarship open to all will be established at Ravensbourne College in the UK.
Tickets for this once-in-a-lifetime concert will be available by ballot only with names being chosen at random. To register, please go to Tickets will be limited to two successful applicants per household.
Beginning approximately two weeks prior to the Tribute To Ahmet Ertegun, Foreigner will be embarking on a tour of the UK on a trek that will encompass the following cities*:
Friday, November 9th – ABC in Glasgow, Scotland
Saturday, November 10th – Newcastle City Hall in Newcastle, England
Monday, November 12th – St. David’s Hall in Cardiff
Tuesday, November 13th – Guildhall in Portsmouth, England
Thursday, November 15th – Civic Hall in Wolverhampton, England
Friday, November 16th – Apollo in Manchester, England
Saturday, November 17th – Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London, England
*More dates to possibly be announced.
The November UK comes hot on the heels of the band’s summer tour where they hooked up with Def Leppard and Styx for approximately thirty shows in addition to several solo performances and an extensive tour of Germany.
The journey through Europe will coincide with the release of the band’s forthcoming live DVD, Alive & Rockin’, which will be released on Eagle Rock Entertainment.
Please stay tuned.

New album from SBB!

Polish progressive rock band SBB announced a release date of their new material. Full length album entitled “The Rock” will be released via Metal Mind Productions on the 5th November 2007 (20th November in US via MVD). The band in a refreshed line-up: Józef Skrzek, Apostolis Anthimos, Gabor Nemethis is working on the follow up to the “New Century” album from 2005. Gabor is known from his work with Hungarian bands Scorpió and P. Mobil. The final decision about the line-up changes was made during the gig in the Słowianin Club in Szczecin (Poland) earlier this year. It was only their third concert in the new line-up but the warm reception proved it was the right step.
Skrzek: “New line-up means more dynamic and rock sound of SBB. It’s very likely that we will start to play older songs in their original arrangements without improvisation on the theme. It was a huge surprise for us that Gabor, SBB’s fan for years now, knows the album versions of the songs so well.”
In this line-up SBB entered Zbigniew Preisner’s studio to record material. Soon after premiere of “The Rock” album the band will hit the road to play several gigs in Poland. The highlight of the tour will take place at Wyspianski Theatre in Katowice, where SBB will record the show for the purposes of their future live DVD release.
“The Rock” will be available in two formats: regular CD and a digipak CD with bonus tracks. More details to follow soon!
SBB 2007 – Skrzek – Nemethis – Anthimos
SBB is with no doubt a legend of Polish music scene. The band started in 1971 as Silesian Blues Band, then the musicians played for 2 years with Czesław Niemen in his group Niemen, to finally return as SBB in 1974. From that moment on, the three letters have meant Search-Break-Build. Till 1980, Józef Skrzek, Apostolis Anthimos and Jerzy Piotrowski have recorded dozens of albums in Poland and abroad, they gave hundreds of concerts all around Europe, sharing stages with Bob Marley (Roskilde Festival ’78), Elton John, Soft Machine, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Charles Mingus Dynasty, Jack Bruce Group, Thin Lizzy, Canned Heat, Omega or Klaus Szultze. In the early 90’s they returned in an extended line-up after almost 10-year break to play a series of concerts in USA. Another comeback took place in 1998, when Jerzy Piotrowski was replaced by Miroslaw Muzykant. 2 years later the drums were taken over by Paul Wertico, acclaimed as one of the best drummers in the world. For the previous 18 years he performed with Pat Metheny Group (on albums: First Circle, The Falcon and the Snowman, Still Life Talking, Letter from Home, Secret Story, The Road To You, We Live Here, Quartet, Imaginary Day).
SBB started with blues, but fascinated with Mahavishnu Orchestra soon began to search for new means of expression. Gradually, music became more and more lyrical, and the band started to join wild, Hendrix-line energy with peaceful, gentle, calm moments. The band has soon worked out their own model of prog-rock, in which they skilfully mixed elements of classical music with jazz-rock instrumental frenzy. The albums that followed showed the band’s perfect evolution, bringing grand and marvelous music.
“SBB – Anthology 1974-2004” box and “Lost Tapes, Vol. 1”, “Lost Tapes, Vol.2”  were a certain summary of their career so far. The 2004 releases, especially the anthology, were received with real enthusiasm. It was the final “pro” for recording a new album “New Century” and the world tour. Jozef Skrzek, Apostolis Anthimos and Paul Wertico set to work on the record. In June 2005 NEW CENTURY 2005 WORLD TOUR, PART 1 hit several cities in Poland, Hungary and Czech Republic. Sold out gigs and fantastic reception of new compositions proved that SBB were still at their best. The tour’s final gig took place in Międzyzdroje at the Celerity Festival, during which the band was given Platinum Album award for the sale of “SBB – Anthology 1974-2004”. Then the band entered Zbigniew Preisner’s studio in Niepołomice to record “New Century”. The album was made with the help of Mack – a world-famous producer, who had worked with Queen, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin. It was the first album in Poland recorded in Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound.  Soon after releasing “New Century” album the band gave 3 great shows in Poland. The last one from Wyspianski Theatre in Katowice was recorded for the first DVD of SBB as a trio Skrzek-Wertico-Apostolis. Year 2006 marks their appearance as a support for the two Deep Purple shows in Poland. In March 2006 SBB headlined Baja Prog Festival, one of the most important progressive festivals in the world.
In late August 2007 Metal Mind Productions released a 20-CD box with complete Skrzek’s solo discography starting from the 70s till today. The anthology includes electro-rock tracks, film music etc. This Autumn certainly belongs to SBB!

KMFDM Unleash new Album

If Ultra-Heavy Beat pioneers KMFDM have stood for anything over their 24 year run, it’d most certainly be sonic chaos – after all, nothing spells wild like a band with roots in four different cities, that dips the austere thump of industrial into the steely liquor of metal. So it comes as no surprise that Sascha Konietzko and company have titled their latest album, Tohuvabohu an Old Testament word for wild or chaotic. On the heels of their double-decade anniversary, and the reissue of a few KMFDM classics (1986’s What Do You Know, Deutschland? And 1999’s Adios, to be exact) from the Wax Trax! Era and beyond, the band has further honed its metallic, factory-rock on Tohuvabohu. Just try out the hurtling paranoia of “Looking For Strange” or the creepy, lurching “I Am What I Am” to see what we mean:

Looking For Strange
I Am What I Am

“The lead single off the album mixes heavy synth beats with lots of dominatrix-style vocals from female singer Lucia Cifarelli, giving it a demanding, hard-to-ignore air that will get your body moving.” – NY Post

“With TOHUVABOHU-an Old Testament word meaning “wild and chaotic”- KMFDM re-establish themselves as a vital force.”
– Top 40 Charts

“KMFDM have been doing it longer than many of these bands have been alive, and “Tohuvabohu” offers a convincing argument that they may still do it better.’ –

“If nothing else, Tohuvabohu shows KMFDM’s continued commitment, after nearly a quarter century, to their mutant marriage of heavy dance beats for metalheads.’ –

“This album consists of headbanging guitars, dance beat anthems, and urgent melodies with their signature in-your-face attitude. Simply awe-inspiring.’ –

*Katz Teams With Fellow Singer/songwriter Rob Szabo on the Lanky Wimps Tour
Peter Katz is gearing up to bring his latest CD More Nights directly to the fans from coast to coast across Canada this fall.  Having already sold 1,500 of More Nights since its June release, Katz says “the response to it has been exceptional; I get a lot of beautiful emails from people and I really feel like they’re connecting with the music and the stories.”

Being independent, Katz distributes 99.9% of his records in-person, after the shows, therefore he knows he better get out there and bring it to them. “Fortunately, that’s all I want to be doing right now,” says Katz.  “I didn’t get into music so I could stay at home and play guitar and sing to myself.  That’s the whole point for me, playing the songs and connecting with people.”

On More Nights, Katz is joined by his backing band, The Curious along with guest appearances from some of the brightest names in the music scene today including:  Luke Doucet, Melissa McClelland, Kevin Breitt (Norah Jones), Valery Gore, Alex McMaster (A Northern Chorus) and Marc Rogers (K’naan, Holly Cole).

Performing regularly to sold-out crowds in Ontario, Quebec and ever-increasing numbers across the country, Katz has earned the CBC Galaxie Rising Star Award, the grand Prize of Toronto’s Indie Week and repeated comparisons to such greats as Jeff Buckley, Martin Sexton and Ron Sexsmith.

“What has been really exciting recently is going back to cities after the initial release because now people know the songs,” exclaims Katz. “At our last show in Toronto, the crowd started singing the chorus to “Forgiveness” and it totally knocked me over.  That’s the kind of moment you dream of, and especially with that song, it was really powerful for me.”

Katz is teaming up with Rob Szabo for the western part of the tour that they have jokingly called The Lanky Wimps Tour inspired by Kinnie Starr’s Scrappy Bitch Tour.  “We’re basically playing into the stereotype that male singer-songwriters are these brooding, hyper-sensitive wimpy guys,” explains Katz, “which really we are!  But that’s not all we do and there’s much more to be found in the show.  We’re also two tall, lanky guys in a tiny cramped car driving across the country, which for some reason we think is kind of funny.”

Eagle Rock Entertainment, on September 25, will re-release three of its most popular DVDs, Marvin Gaye’s Greatest Hits:  Live in ’76, a powerful Marianne Faithfull documentary, Dreaming My Dreams, that includes an interview with Rolling Stone Keith Richards, and Deep Purple In Concert With The London Symphony Orchestra Conducted By Paul Mann.

Marvin Gaye (1939-1984) was one of the architects of modern soul music. His suave crooning, his falsetto, his sexy stage demeanor, and his unerring sense of the inherent drama within each and every one of his songs made him a superstar before his tragic death at the young age of 45 at the hand of his own father. There exists today precious little complete concerts on film for this most revered artist.

Recorded live at Edenhalle Concert Hall in Amsterdam, Holland during Gaye’s first European tour, this 23-song hour (retail: $12.49) power-packs a lifetime of great R’n’B into one stellar performance. Classics like “Let’s Get It On,” “Ain’t That Peculiar,” “I Heard It Through The Grapevine” and “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)” are juxtaposed against Gaye’s more topical material that he wrote as he gained political awareness later in his career (“Inner City Blues [Makes Me Wanna Holler],” “Save The Children” and “What’s Happening.”).

Dreaming My Dreams (retail: $12.49)  is an intimate hour-long look behind-the-scenes at the life and career of British singer/actress Marianne Faithfull.  Catapulted into fame with her vulnerable and touching cover of a Jagger/Richards composition, “As Tears Go By,” she was a big part of the early Rolling Stone oeuvre, nestling comfortably into the lives of both Mick and Keith. Battling drug abuse throughout the ‘70s, her triumphant artistic return, 1979’s Broken English, was a landmark recording and one of the year’s best.

Faithfull’s demons, though, did not disappear. She has been upfront about her rough life, yet has continued to surprise artistically, performing with a dramatically diverse array of artists from Pink Floyd to Metallica. This heralded 1999 inside look comes complete with a 30-minute concert performance, material about her childhood and family (including her marriage to avant-garde artist John Dunbar), historical video footage dating back to 1964, and interviews with Richards, Faithfull, as well as Maggie Mayall and other friends and family members.

Deep Purple In Concert With The London Symphony Orchestra Conducted By Paul Mann (retail: $12.49) has this most classic of Classic Rock bands blowing the roof off the famed Royal Albert Hall in London, England a full 30 years after their first symphonic project. Keyboardist Jon Lord, Singer Ian Gillan, drummer Ian Paice, guitarist Steve Morse and bassist Roger Glover perform 13 tracks in two hours, with heavy accents on improvisation and even a guest shot by the legendary Ronnie James Dio!

The above-mentioned releases are included in the Eagle Vision Classics collection of budget line DVDs specially priced at $12.49.  Eagle Vision Classics is a subsidiary of Eagle Rock Entertainment.

Eagle Rock Entertainment develops, acquires and produces music programming for a wide range of notable and high profile artists, which the company distributes on a worldwide basis. Eagle Rock Entertainment, Eagle Vision and Eagle Eye Media are wholly owned divisions of Eagle Rock Group, LTD.

Renowned punk outfit, D.O.A is back with a band new DVD entitled Smash The State that will be released September 1, 2007 on Sudden Death Records. This long awaited compilation is loaded with a ton of raw footage including, an array of tour mayhem, twenty one classic songs, interviews, new casts, and an anarchist picnic. The dvd will also include short guest appearances by the likes of Keith Morris, Dirk Dirksen, JB Shayne, and Zippy Pinhead.

Since 1978 Joe Shithead Keithley and the rest of D.O.A has been spreading there outspoken music around the country, voicing there strong political opinions where ever they could. This didn’t always come easy for the Vancouver based anarchists, “Our very first show outside of Vancouver was in San Francisco. I took a train, Biscuits and Rampage took a bus and Brad Kent hitch hiked,” says Keithley.  “When we arrived we had to scramble around to find enough gear to play. But it was great, so from that point on… we would hop in any kind of old wrecked vehicle we could find, and head down to the Bay area and help cause a punk rock riot.”

Besides many memorable live performances in San Francisco, Smash The State also includes an outdoor D.O.A set in Vancouver’s Stanley Park. This once in a lifetime performance is documented along with the before and aftermath of the anarchists celebration. Keithley explains, “it was an anarchist gathering in 1978 and was billed as “Anti-Canada Day”. We didn’t have a permit, so the cops tried to stop D.O.A., The Subhumans and Private School from playing that day…there’s even footage of (Randy) Rampage giving a cop a kiss. Hey, cool shit.”

Smash The State is a raw collection of the first three years of D.O.A’s lengthy career. Not only does is document the original moments of the band but it also shines light on the state of punk in the late seventies and early eighties. It’s a must see piece of the punk rock revolution.

There are people who follow trends and there are those that set them.  Since first bursting out of the L.A. club scene in the late ’80s, Perry Farrell (Jane’s Addiction, Porno for Pyros) has been in the latter category, emerging as one of music’s most influential figures and cultural leaders. Now, in his first musical endeavor in four years, Farrell has launched his most anticipated creation to date: Satellite Party, an ambitious new musical group with a bold conceptual album entitled Ultra Payloaded that will further cement his status as one of music’s true revolutionaries.

The idea behind Satellite Party was born out of Farrell’s passionate belief that people can change the world one step at a time, and with this project, he is launching a musical movement to do just that.  Weaving together an array of genres with his progressive thinking, the music of Satellite Party tells a story about a collaborative brain trust of artistic visionaries, including writers, musicians and environmentalists called The Solutionists, who seek to redesign and come up with solutions for the world. Farrell says of The Solutionists, “We make change fashionable and use the arts as a catalyst for change.”

While there is a message within Satellite Party, it is still an album first and foremost, and it’s a record that finds Farrell in prime form. He wants people to understand that the music is what drives his story.  After a chance encounter at SXSW in Texas with Farrell and Satellite Party, MINK was invited to join an extensive tour which started in August and will continue until mid-October.  MINK has been having the time of their lives on tour with Satellite Party all across the US while hitting Canada’s major cities.  The tour lands in Vancouver on September 23, 2007 at the Commodore Ballroom.

MINK is seizing the moment . . . and intends to hold on tightly.

The band has clearly hit the ground running.  They formed in spring 2006 and have already played with KISS, performed at Lollapalooza and are now on tour with Satellite Party. MINK have written more than 60 songs (30 of them in one intense three-week stretch), recorded their debut album in just four weeks (with noted produce Sylvia Massy of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Tool fame), shot one of the most fun videos of recent times for their infectious song “Talk to Me” with director Christian Lamb (Madonna, Korn, Kelly Clarkson, Incubus), had another song “Pressure Pressure” featured nightly in ESPN’s 2006 Major League baseball playoffs coverage.

MINK are quickly establishing themselves as one of the most exciting new live acts on the scene both in their club shows and openings at big-venue concerts.  And all the while going back and forth between New York (from where front man Neal Carlson hails) and Australia (home to drummer Stella Mozgawa, lead guitarist Nick Maybury, bassist Grant Fitzpatrick).

MINK’s debut self-titled album was released in the US on August 28, 2007 and will be released in Canada in October, both on Fontana North. Check out the new MINK TV webcast –
Don’t miss the electrifying performances Satellite Party and Mink deliver when they hit Vancouver on September 23, 2007.

Dropkick Murphys “The Meanest Of Times” Out 9/18 – Fall Tour Announced

DROPKICK MURPHYS are set to release their sixth studio album THE MEANEST OF TIMES–a collection of spirited, cathartic and heartfelt anthems–September 18 on their own Born & Bred Records in association with Warner Music Group’s Independent Label Group.  The Boston band will also hit the road September 12 for an East Coast headlining trek in support of THE MEANEST OF TIMES with The Horrorpops and Everybody Out.
From their early beginnings playing all-ages matinees at now-defunct Boston clubs to the prominent placement of their song “I’m Shipping Up To Boston” in Martin Scorsese’s Academy Award-winning film The Departed, the DROPKICK MURPHYS–KEN CASEY (vocals, bass guitar), AL BARR (vocals), MATT KELLY (drums, backing vocals), JAMES LYNCH (guitar, backing vocals), TIM BRENNAN (mandolin, accordion, banjo, bouzouki, tin whistle, and acoustic guitar), MARC ORRELL (guitar, accordion, piano, backing vocals) and SCRUFFY WALLACE (bagpipes)–have evolved over the past decade into one of the most beloved punk-inspired bands in the world.  The band performed at the Sex Pistols’ infamous 2002 Golden Jubilee gig, wrote the theme song to the highly improbable 2004 Red Sox World Series Championship (their first championship in 86 years) and collaborated with Woody Guthrie’s estate to utilize the folk pioneer’s unpublished lyrics to craft “Gonna Be A Blackout.” In addition, the new Discovery Channel series “Lobster Wars”–about the trials and tribulations of lobster fisherman off the coast of Southern New England–also features “I’m Shipping Up To Boston” as the title track ( Cinemax is currently running spots that feature DKM giving viewiers a tour through that various landmarks that big scenes took place in The Departed throughout Boston. One of the clips can be seen on YouTube here:
At the heart of THE MEANEST OF TIMES lies “The State of Massachusetts,” a song that plays to the strengths of DKM. The song, with its instantly memorable driving banjo riff is sure to be an immediate hit with diehard MURPHYS fans as well as the legion of new fans that have come on board in the wake of The Departed.  “I think we all like the fact that it crosses the spectrum between Irish folk music and rock & roll. It’s really indicative of what the band is all about,” BARR says.
Produced by the band, THE MEANEST OF TIMES contains all the best elements of the DKM sound: a complex distillation of classic punk rock, Celtic folk and American rock ‘n roll.  This album puts the band’s diversity, intensity and sincerity on full display. The album’s stirring opus “Flannigan’s Ball” features guest appearances by Spider Stacey of The Pogues and Ronnie Drew of The Dubliners, bringing together three generations of modern Irish folk music. “You know, Irish music is a family thing,” CASEY notes.  “I can imagine a father, son and grandfather all sitting down to listen to that song, each with their own generations represented.”
As evidenced by the explosive and uncompromising album-opener, “Famous For Nothing” and the set bowing, optimistic roar of “Never Forget,” The MEANEST OF TIMES is book-ended in top form and captures among its 15 tracks what founding bassist CASEY calls “themes of childhood, growing up and family.”  “Growing up, I saw my share of hard times.  I think a lot of us did. But looking back on it, I wouldn’t trade them for anything, because those hard times made us all who we are today,” he explains.  “To me the record is a celebration of life,” BARR adds. “It’s about redemption. It’s about coming up in the world and the way it shapes you. It’s about not taking your family and friends for granted and it’s about living in the moment. The cover is a bunch of Catholic School kids messing around and looking angry on the playground. And if you think back to your elementary and high school years, in a lot of ways, they sometimes really were the meanest of times.”
With their label debut, DKM have turned out what is arguably their best album to date, a notion upheld by the scorching two-minute working class anthem “Tomorrow’s Industry,” the whiskey, war, suicide and guns chant-along of “Vices & Virtues” and the disc’s socio-political hardcore bruiser “Shattered.”  “In this day and age, I think it’s natural for bands to write songs based on topical, political and social issues,” CASEY explains. “But as we started to take a look at all the songs, we had eleven that dealt with family, and by that I mean our direct families, people in the neighborhood, fans and friends. For whatever reason the songs just gravitated in that direction.  Each song tells a story about people in our lives or parts of our backgrounds.”

Brian Byrne is sitting at the wheel, looking down a long, dirty, country road and eager to get on it to start his next musical journey. Byrne will kick off the release of his second solo album Tailor Made (Kindling Music, 2005) with showcases during this year’s Canadian Country Music Awards festival in Regina, Saskatchewan  on September 8th while the album will be released on September 4, 2007.

Tailor Made takes a more definitive country and southern rock direction than Byrne’s debut Tuesdays, Thursdays & If It Rains, which earned him an East Coast Music Awards and Canadian Radio Music Awards nomination.  This time out Byrne turned to influences such as Steve Earle, Gram Parsons, The Allmans, Willie, Waylon, Johnny and Hank with stories of too much drink, late night characters, missing loved ones and trying to find a way back home.  Banjos, pianos, pedal steels, harps and beer-bottle slides all find their rightful place on the new album.

Following the CCMA’s, Byrne and his touring band which features Bob Egan (Blue Rodeo/Wilco), Christian Tanna (I Mother Earth) and Gerry Finn (David Usher) will hit Saskatoon and Edmonton before heading back to Ontario for more dates.

MINK – Album In Stores Now!!!

What’s up y’all?

I don’t usually use the word “y’all”, but we’re in Texas and it seems like the right thing to do. This week has been so hectic, exciting, and draining at the same time. We have all been forced to forego the usual customs of life (sleep, showering, etc.) because it’s been such a crazy week. A few days ago, we drove from Tulsa to Dallas, hopped on a plane to LA, played some tunes for our fantastic label Fontana, flew back to Dallas, and then did 3 shows in one day.

All of us are totally buzzed and running on adrenaline. We’ve been doing a lot of talking about how fun this year has been, how much work it’s been, and all we’ve gone through together to get to this point. It’s such a great feeling of accomplishment and we have such an appreciation for our fans. New Brunswick artist and award winning singer-songwriter Jessica Rhaye has scored yet another coup by being chosen as one of 15 music artists from across Canada to showcase their music to the world’s leading film and television music supervisors and executives at the third annual Canadian Music Café during the Toronto International Film Festival®. Jessica will be showcasing work from her solo album Short Stories with her band in Toronto on September 12th at 1:00 PM at The Rivoli, a landmark Toronto concert club.

Jessica’s showcase is considered even more prestigious when it is considered that she was chosen out of a list of over 200 artists from across Canada. The Canadian Music Café is produced to provide a major opportunity for selected artists to perform their music to the key decision makers responsible for placing songs and recordings in television and motion picture productions.
The Canadian Music Café which takes place from September 11th to the 13th and which is exclusive for Toronto International Film Festival® Delegates is an initiative of a consortium of music industry organizations: the Canadian Recording Association (CRIA); the Society Of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN); the Canadian Independent Record Production Association (CIRPA) and the Canadian Music Publishers Association (CMPA). Jessica Rhaye is joined for the Canadian Music Café by such notable artists as Oh Susanna, Great Lake Swimmers, United Steel Workers of Montreal, Chris Colepaugh & The Cosmic Crew; Simon Wilcox and The Saint Alvia Cartel. Rhaye (lead vocals), Kaleb Simmons (Backing vocals) and John Campbelljohn (Gutarist), contributed to Valle Venia’s Leo Philipp Schmidt to create non-traditional innovative music.  Schmidt, who is known for taking the listener on a fascinating journey of sound, wrote all the music and lyrics and is the founder of the German based label Valle Venia.

Jessica is armed with undeniable talent; captivating audiences with both her unforgettable voice and contemporary folk music.  She has been nominated for four East Coast Music Awards including, Best New Artist, Pop Artist of the Year and Female Artist of the Year, Best Pop Album of the Year and performed on the Award show in a tribute to Anne Murray.

“[Katz] breathes life into Buckley’s unique stream of folk music and for a moment garners smiles from those who worshiped the genre. But Katz by no means lives in Buckley’s shadow. He carves his own niche in the industry and delivers a unique blend of folk with a vintage sound… Peter Katz embodies Canadian folk”. -Andrew Seale, Spill Magazine

“…instantly memorable songs and melodies rarely found amidst such heavy tones.”– Entertainment Weekly

New York, NY  — Toronto, Ontario’s The Birthday Massacre are set to release their third album, Walking With Strangers (Metropolis Records), on September 10.

Equal parts pop and 80s electronica with a sprinkling of goth, The Birthday Massacre creates a sound that is brilliantly original and all their own. The new album, Walking With Strangers, was co-produced by band guitarists Rainbow and M. Falcore (who also handles the electronic programming), as well as the legendary Dave “Rave” Ogilvie  (Skinny Puppy), who also mixed. All 12 tracks showcase the band’s unique vocals and unparalleled musicianship. From the melodic piano strains of the opening song, “Kill The Lights,” lead singer Chibi’s sweet, powerful and stunningly beautiful vocals show more range and maturity, from the delicate “Remember Me,” the powerful “Goodnight,” to the haunting and atmospheric “Movie.” She seduces the listener from the start straight through to close with the title track “Walking With Strangers.”  The Birthday Massacre effortlessly transitions between the aggressive breakdowns on “Red Stars,” to the dance-rock influenced “Science.” Rainbow’s synth programming adds an unmistakable ambiance to the entire album, and standout rhythm hooks make Walking With Strangers instantly addictive.

The Birthday Massacre once again manage to blend gothic, rock and electronic music and to exceed the expectations of their ever-growing and devoted fan base. The band remains true to the music that gained them the praise of fans and music critics
alike, while further refining and expanding upon their signature sound.

Spawned in Paris, France on February 29, 1984 as part of an international art-project, KMFDM in the following years pioneered the crossover between techno/dance and metal with their signature Ultra-Heavy Beat. Moving to Chicago in 1990, KMFDM was the pride of Wax Trax! Records during the label’s peak. Rapidly evolving through intense musical exploration and touring; the band has since redefined themselves year by year with each new release.

Over the past one-and-a-half decades, repeatedly moving Headquarters from Chicago to Seattle to NYC, and back again to Seattle, Sascha Konietzko’s revolving band of misfits have stood the test of time. The rotating cast of KMFDM was at times joined by members of Skinny Puppy, Ministry and R.E.M., as well as by legendary punk-rock diva Nina Hagen.

Now in their 24th year, KMFDM remain a musical entity to be reckoned with.  Through relentless and unceasing experimentation and reinvention they have continued to top themselves.  KMFDM’s new album, TOHUVABOHU, is no exception.

‘Tohuvabohu,’ an Old Testament word meaning “wild and chaotic,” perfectly captures the spirit and energy of KMFDM on the tracks contained therein.  While staying true to their Ultra-Heavy Beat, TOHUVABOHU also dares to venture into new territories, ultimately scorching everything in its path.  KMFDM invites you to celebrate chaos with TOHUVABOHU. “Get ready, set, all systems go!”
