John Mayall And The Bluesbreakers
In The Palace Of The King
2007, Eagle Records
John Mayall And The Bluesbreakers are known primarily for being the band that Clapton was in before Cream. The 1966 LP that included both of their namesakes is deemed one of the essential Blues records of all time. Some 40 odd years later both are still plugging away at it and releasing music for the fans. After hearing this release it is easy to see why John is still relevant today.
The 14 songs on this album stay true to the blues but keeps it fresh sounding and not a rehash of previous releases. The title track is a fantastic blues based rocker that is sure to satisfy both rock fans and the blues purists. Mayall’s playing is precise and clean sounding that is soothing to the ears. “Big Legged Woman”, Now I’ve Got A Woman” and “I’d rather Be Blind” are some of the standout tracks found here. This whole release is one you can imagine yourself hearing live in a smoky club. Another great blues-rock release.
