Liv Kristine and her band Leaves’ Eyes are currently traveling around Europe as support act to Kamelot. The queen of Goth doesn’t have a new album to promote so instead she picks material from her previous albums the 2005 release VINLAND SAGA, the debut album LOVELORN and the EP from 2006 called LEGEND LAND.
This is the first time Leaves’ Eyes plays on Danish ground and after this particular show the band headed straight to Sweden. Everything was of course delayed and the Danish support act Nightlight went on about an hour late. And you could definitely feel the anticipation that surfaced in the big crowd.
The lights went out and Leaves’ Eyes kicked off the show with the song “Farewell Proud Men” taken from the latest studio album. The band seemed really happy to be on stage in Denmark and Liv Kristine herself lit up the entire stage with her happy smile.
The show included 18 tracks and it was a happy band that stood on stage. Everyone was making jokes amongst each other and when Liv Kristine talks Norwegian between the songs she was stopped by the band members that told her to talk English, otherwise they didn’t understand what she was saying.
She thanked everyone for being there and dedicated the song “Leaves’ Eyes” to all the fans and the song “Norwegian Love Song” was of course dedicated to her native country.
When Liv Kristine sang on her own it sounded beautiful and harmonic but that changed in the songs where her husband Alexander Krull shared the vocals. He contributes raw growling vocals that make everything sound a little more ruff, which was a pleasant change. Krull also got the crowd to sing along, jump and scream on his command.
Ordinary play time ended with the song “Solemn Sea” but the crowd cheered for more and the band returned to the stage to do the encores “Norwegian Love Song” and came back again and did “Lyset”, “Legend Land” and finally “Elegy”. When the last tone had faded out, after 90 minutes, Liv Kristine said that the band were about to go straight down to the merchandise stand in order to meet the fans and sign albums and cards.
Leaves’ Eyes stood in the merchandise stand for a long while and greeted all of the eager fans that came up. Talk about a humble and kind act. Not many bands are doing that nowadays.
To sum up the evening I’d say that Leaves’ Eyes delivered a solid and strong Goth/metal show of high class, and I’d say that this band are one of the strongest ones in their genre today. If you haven’t found out about Leaves’ Eyes yet than it’s time.
In August it’s time for the true queen of Goth Liv Kristine and Leave’s Eyes and Kamelot to conquer America, don’t miss that.
