Atreyu stand apart from any of the other bands of the hardcore/metal genre that I\’ve heard, as they use two vocalists. Lead throat, Alex Varkatzas, handles the agression side of the fence while drummer Brandon Saller offers up a melodic approach…and you know what? It works.

From the metal-tinged opener \”A Song for the Optimists\”, the straight-ahead hardcore of \”Living Each Day Like You\’re Already Dead\” or the melodic \”Aint Life Grand\”, Orange County\’s Atreyu have a diversity which you don\’t find among even today\’s hardcore/metal standards (if there is such a thing?. SUICIDE NOTES AND BUTTERFLY KISSES will appease any hardcore fan yet may even spark a bit of curiousity in the metal community.
