This is one of the only “new” death metal that has really done anything for me. Too many bands have been boring rehashes of what has been done in the early 90’s. I have grown tired of most of the singers being poor imitators of Glen Benton. I still like the once ground breaking acts like Morbid Angel and Deicide, but there’s been such a shitload of wannabe’s follow in their footsteps that I have lost interest in much of the North American death metal scene. So when I heard of Nile I was expecting another band that sounded like everyone else. However this was not at all the case!! Yes, Nile do have influences from Morbid Angel, but they are not poor imitators AND they have brought their own sound and style into the mix. One major factor this CD has going for it is dynamics. As well, the orchestrations spattered throughout the CD really add to the music. I really love the intro to “Ramses Bringer of War.” If you’re looking for something brutal, but not rehashed, then pick this CD up.
